Basically you’re not an Alpha for being an a-hole to the guy. You’re a Beta cuz you can’t cintrol your emotions and explode on the guy like a child.
Chill out Francis, I was just messing with the guy.
And I never said explode, can't control emotions, act like a child etc. It's not impolite to be more assertive in your conversation with someone. What's rude and assholish is when a relative tries to cram all their religious and whatever else beliefs into your head every time you see them. You can control the conversation a little bit more and tell the guy you do not want to talk about that. Then ask a question about something in their life and discuss better things than religion or politics. In that process, maybe you learn something new about your uncle and maybe help him become a better person to talk to/more likeable for all.

she will make a nice living being a high school teacher?
Teachers start at about $54k in the country and it scales up from there. Currently it scales up to over $116k a year with tenure so yeah, she can make a decent living.

Good for her. That's almost as good as Arlington Public Schools.
They're comparable. Her commute is better in Fairfax County.

Yes. We are all "Baptist" but lately he's been dabbling in the Jewish religion. Something about the sheephorn getting stuck somewhere when satan was around or something. I just found the exchange between my aunt and uncle funny during the story.
This is my favorite part of the story shofar...

I wish we had an Art History major here to give the tours at the Art Museum. We keep getting the guy who mumbles to himself and interprets the paintings wrong. The captions contradict him.

That's 65K in the south for you counting at home. I used to live and work in Arlington years ago.

Messing with you. Born and raised in Arlington and spent my entire educational career in APS.

tell him to STFU and walk away
It's funny how you think this is the "alpha" way to handle this when it's actually a childish immature way to handle it. Instead of taking control and restoring order to a wayward situation, you just tell him to shut the frick up then walk away before he can slap your pussy arse. That sound "alpha" to you?

The ironic thing is that she went to Catholic schools all the way through high school (PVI grad) and now she's teaching in the county school system which pays much better.

My daughter decided to get her masters in Art Education and is now a high school art teacher for Fairfax County. She'll make a nice living teaching for the county school system.
However, the undergrad degrees don't qualify someone for much of anything
To be fair, you don’t need your masters for this. My best friend is the talented art teacher for a few schools in WBR and only did undergrad.
I don’t think I’d go back to graduate school if my plan was just to teach middle or high school.

A lot of school systems offer automatic pay raises for people with their Masters. The earlier you get that bump the more the degree is worth it if you teach long term.

No teacher I know makes more than 40k a year at public schools
If teachers make 116k a year after tenure working 8 months out the year then everyone is in the wrong profession.

Not everywhere is as great as Lafayette. 60k is not rare in come parishes. And TX, well, is not LA.

As someone else stated, you get a bump in salary for postgrad degrees. Plus, you'll need one if you ever want to go into administration. Maybe as a young teacher you dont plan on that, but never say never.
