Anybody fractured an elbow?

Just got the diagnosis of a fractured elbow. Have to go see an orthopedic next week. What should I expect. Doc in the box said no cast but ortho would know more.

Yep, avoid cast and splint at all cost. Should just be sling. Once that scar tissue starts building in there your elbow will be frozen.

Broke mine rather severely in 1972. They tried simply casting it first, but I ended up having surgery to have pins put in.

Yea had a piece of bone chip off into my joint so I couldn’t rotate my forearm. Dr had to remove the chipped piece but thankfully no hardware.
Like Leastbay said keeping movement of the joint is key. Shouldn’t have a hard cast.
I can almost completely turn my palms up now.

Yes. Was in a cast for a while. Good as new. My break was in 1993

Depends on what part of the elbow, I just finished PT for a fractured radial head last week. Was in a brace that allowed movement for 6 weeks, then had PT for 6 weeks. Really wasn't an issue at all, first couple of weeks be used to doing things with one arm. Thankfully I was a professional with that as I had shoulder surgery on the same arm earlier in the year.

I fractured my femur near where the medial collateral ligaments attach in the image. One of the more painful injuries that I’ve had.

No but I stubbed the shite out of my pinky toe this morning.

Yes, wore a sling.
Depending upon location of fracture determines surgery or not

It sucks when you get out of the sling and have to work to get your range of motion back.

Why yes I have- radial head fracture with minor displacement.
Cast for 2 weeks then a high tech braced that allowed more degrees of motion every 2 weeks, then PT. It took me 7 months to open it all the way again

I did after falling during a xanax binge. I dropped a les paul in the process of this which damaged the body. That bothered me more than the elbow.
My whole elbow was multi colored bruised in a circumference of about 5 inches around my left elbow.
I just wrapped it up and powered forward till it got better. I dont remember a lot from those years, but I remember that bring painful.

I did. No cast. Went to Dr. Mark Field. Excellent elbow ortho. Referred there because he supposedly fixes LSU pitcher elbows.

If you’re in BR area I suggest Dr Field or Dr Ahmad

3 bones make up your elbow, so it’s really tough to say what to expect without more info. Did they give a specific bone that was broken?

I'm not knocking the thread, OP, but the front page of the OT looks like that of an Orthopedic Surgeon board. Just weird that it all got posted at once.
