Time has definitely changed honeymoon destination choices. It's crazy to think that this is another form of American ruins right in the middle of some beautiful scenery.

This is a great example of some old version of America that didn't keep up with the changing travel and lodging industry. There's no way these mom and pop places could keep up with major resort chains.

Anybody ever travel to one of these places?

Lots of those places in the Jewish Alps used to be used for corporate conventions and meetings during the off-seasons. They all looked alike. And yes I went to some many eons ago.

I'd love to explore that stuff. Abandoned buildings can tell some fascinating stories. It appears to be that most have been razed or destroyed by other means.

Stayed one odd night in the Villa vasilla in the Catskills before a backpack trip over 10 years ago. You could tell it was old mafia stomping grounds. Place was eerie and likely haunted. It was operational but parts of the buildings were abandoned but still available to walk through. It’s like they didn’t care enough to keep you out of the ballroom that hasn’t hosted an event in 15+ years.

Kinda reminds me of a dilapidated version of the HoJo Don Draper stayed in...

I won a dance contest. My partner got a nose job and you wouldn't recognize her now.

My parents stayed at The Concord in the Catskill mountains. They loved it. They had a golf course called The Monster that was the longest course in the world (allegedly).

Kellerman's, we come together, singing all as one.
We have shared another season's talent, play and fun.
Summer days will soon be over, soon the autumn starts,
And tonight our memories whisper softly in our hearts.

Join hands and hearts and voices --
Voices, hearts and hands.
At Kellerman's the friendships last long,
As the mountains stand

Daytime, nighttime, any hour -- whether rain or shine
Games and lectures, talks and music happily combine.

Not a stress or strain is found here, for it must be said:
Here at Kellerman's you gladened, stomach, heart and head

So lets join in just one last chorus --
Visitors, staff and guests.
What we've shared won't be forgotten,
Old friends are the best.

The Borscht Belt died b/c:

1. Major hotels and hotel chains stopped banning Jews

2. Jets made it possible to go to Florida for the same money in the same time

About 25 years ago I went to one in Upstate New York and it was like it was abandoned in the 1970s. The occasional old couple would go, but it was a true time wrap. The only form of "entertainment" left was basically an abandoned bowling alley with some pool tables. They had cigarette butts left in ashtrays that looked like they were left some 20 years before that. Everyone would eat dinner in the main house and it was prepared by the family (then elderly) that owned the resort. Very bizarre, but located in beautiful country.

I still go to Mohonk Mountain House 1-2 times a year. It’s one of the most beautiful places in the US.
