Long story short, I work in a building with 3 floors and Id guess 20-30 people per floor, some going up and down multiple times per day.
My lunch has been stolen out of the “common area” aka an old printer, a refrigerator, and a microwave in what seems like a small older closet, atleast once or twice a week for the last two months.
It’s never every day, honestly only seems to be days I have a salad from subway.
I was going to spike the dressing with something and watch but with so many people I would likely not see a reaction, and I don’t put the dressing on the salad, and it’s in a perforated package.
I could bring a small ice box and keep it at my desk I suppose? But I’m trying to make this motherfricker to pay for these salad thefts.
Ideas?
I thought about a Carolina reaper dry rub and mixing it in, but that feels like the fast track to HR
Edit : sorry for not making the long story short

What’s wrong with putting hot sauce on your own food?

They will take one bite and stop eating it.

Do this. You can't get in trouble for putting stuff on your food.....unless HR finds this thread.

I can see flat out stealing something that looks good, but we had this crazy broad that picked the shrimp out of someone else's leftover stir fry and put the rest back in the fridge.

Sprinkle over the lettuce leaves of the salad.

I ate a few recently. It was... Unpleasant.

Can’t say that I have.

Of course, if you removed my bodyguards, who knows, things could get interesting!

How could you get sent to HR for how you make your own food? Honestly it sounds like a good idea either that or ex lax in the dressing would be funny.

So the guy that stole your salad is gonna report you to HR for making it really spicy?

Put a double laxative in there. Those things usually take 6 hours to work. So a double dose should work while they are at the job or on their way home. If you get blamed just say "bad salad"??.

Or that you have been constipated and needed it. Y'all are making this way to complicated with the excuses its your food you should do whatever you want with it.

I more think they would get involved following somebody going to the water machine and trying to drown their face/and or dying from the pepper rub.
Also, not trying to kill somebody that may say I did it purposefully.
I forgot to mention, I’ve left notes saying “SouthernImmigrants lunch, pls do not eat” several times to no avail, so they atleast know that I know about it

Don't put your food in the common area fridge. That should take care of it.

No one should be picking up your food. Perhaps you just like your salads hot as shite?

No one is going to go to HR because someone put insanely hot shite in the food they stole.

Years ago someone did that to some pizza of mine. The next time I had pizza I licked every piece before putting it in the fridge. The next day I came in and much of it was gone. I giggled as I sent out the email to the entire staff congratulating the mystery thief on eating my slobber.

Doubtful, most everybody puts a similar note on their food, and I have done it since well before the thefts occurred.
Side note : at what point does it become like actual theft and a punishable crime?
Might start double-meat’ing these salads so he can rack up some $
