Was one, certainly in the top three, reason we re-located from Louisiana to Texas, came to Wichita Falls some 27 years ago when our three were very young.

Mother was a great educator in Jefferson Parish and the three of us were public school educated, didn't miss a thing and the majority of my friends of youth were parochial school educated...wasn't particularly impressed.

Find more than one reason to re-locate as there is always going to be something out of balance.

Our move turned out seemingly fine but who knows what would have happened if we remained in Louisiana, is an unknown

It's not really a "can't afford" type thing. Why should I have to pay for private school when my taxes should pay for my kids to receive a decent education?

Holeeee Crap

Wait until you get that first property tax bill, and homeowners ins bill in the state of Texas. Youre gonna shite your pants

According to WalletHub, a personal finance website, Texans this year are paying an average of $3,327 in real estate taxes. It's the fifth highest amount in the United States and 59 percent higher than the average American household's real estate property tax bill of $2,089.

Texas is the only southern state among the 10 with the highest real estate taxes, WalletHub said.

I'd like to but the wife, family, and job would be hard to leave. I don't want to have to teach again just to move.

That's cause there aren't any state income taxes.

I live in a super comparable apartment in Dallas to that I lived in New Orleans and the difference in rent is about the difference in the income tax, so it all pretty much washes out.

Stay away from Atlanta.. Heard Mississippi needs some more quality residents like yourself.

I'm not quite sure you understand the concept of home ownership, which includes property taxes and insurance, as well as PMI, in a lot of cases

My SO got flooded in Covington and is looking to relocate. Where is undecided, but she's had enough. She has a civil engineering background, and with the rampant uncontrolled development on the Northshore, she believes the flooding problems will only get worse.

Good luck to her. That is what flood insurance is for.

I'm not sure you understand the concept of rent, which certainly has property taxes baked into it. You think the owner of the apartment complex is absorbing the property taxes?

I am absolutely positive that the owner doesn't pay PMI, nor does he pay homeowners insurance on your property, or your liability. He also gets the benefit of amortization and depreciation against taxes, that a homeowner does not

Nope. I enjoy my job. Family and LSU are close by. My kids are going to Catholic Schools no matter where we live. And I don't make knee jerk reactions based on changes in leadership.
