He carries a gun so he does not live in a state of fear and always feels safe.

And yes it's much worse than the wild west

No, he feels unsafe and therefore carries a gun. Hence living in a state of fear.

Look, I'm really just playing devil's advocate here. I don't actually care if people choose to conceal carry.

Every time things like this happen, these threads get started. The truth of the matter is that you are much more likely to die from a whole host of other things before being killed by an act of violence.

While working or living in certain areas may increase your risk, college campuses just aren't that special.

Vehicle is explicitly listed as an exception. At least in LA. I had a nice long argument with a dumb LSU PD officer that tried to arrest me for this. Keep the statute linked in my favorites now.

Where can one find the ruling on this in other states?

I found it on the Legis.gov site under firearm free zone statute

I typically open carry. No one thinks anything of it. The laws are illogical, but I'm not a legislator.

I carry a gun and am in zero fear. Just because it isn't likely doesn't mean you shouldn't be prepared? Is there some negative to it you are advocating that I don't see?

That's like saying you wear a seatbelt bc you're living in a state of fear. You wear a seatbelt in case something does go wrong, just like carrying a gun in case something goes wrong.

And i think the even more actual truth is that even if someone is carrying..the idea that a "good guy" with a gun is going to stop a "bad guy" with a gun is probably a myth, in 95% of these situations. The only thing adding another weapon to the mix in such a chaotic situation does is start a crossfire..meaning the situation escalates into something even more dangerous even if someone is trying to help.

I think it's well intentioned but it's not reality.

1) Wearing a seatbelt is required by law.
2) It's not really a matter of if you'll be in an auto accident but when.
3) Notice the keyword there is accident, that's what PPE is for.

As pointed out already, simply having a gun for most people provides a false sense of security. While some of the studies are flawed, it's pretty well shown that it takes extensive and regular training to be able to react appropriately in most situations that would warrant the use of a gun.

US vs. Lopez was overturned back in the 90's.

Lopez challenged the federal laws around firearm free zones around schools. The US stated the typical "commerce clause" nonsense and got slapped down.

Not sure about the carry laws on campus. I do know someone in law enforcement that works there and the answer he gave me about carry on campus was interesting.

Well obviously car wrecks are more common and I agree that having proper training is essential. Having a gun is not garunteed to save your life but neither is wearing a seatbelt. However, I like my chances better wearing a seatbelt and carrying a gun.

But like you said, to each his own

I am all about probability...and I think that your odds are far greater of having your life ruined by getting caught with a gun in school than the odds of someone else shooting you in school...

Conceal carrying in school is a stupid idea. Sorry, but your kids likely aren't Jason Bourne. If they take their guns out in a crowded classroom, they are just as, if not more likely, to kill another student on accident than to kill the guy who is trying to kill him. A guy who brings guns to kill people in classrooms is a highly determined individual who knows he's going to be killed by the cops, so another student having a gun isn't going to deter him much at all. This isn't some crackhead robbing a gas station; this is a guy with mass murder/suicide on his mind.

Sorry, but even with these killings, concealed carrying should not be allowed on college campuses. Concealed carrying is for people who just want to steal or rape shite. Not murder/suicide. Guns in these cases should be left to the professionals who know what they are doing with these guns.

Only total idiots. Your kid will go to jail if he's caught with a gun in the classroom, expelled, and then never welcomed to any college again, save for DeVry.

If you do it at a school, then you're incredibly stupid. Have fun if someone sees you with it, and immediately screams out in terror. Concealed carrying is for theft and assault, not mass murder/suicide.
