Any Viet Nam vets here? do you want to share your experience?

I was too young to be drafted into the service during the war--about 5 years. I knew several that were drafted and maybe 4 or 5 that went.
I know a couple of guys that stayed in the rear or in Saigon throughout their stints there and talk of parties and stuff they had to pass the time.
I know two that were in the fight and will not hardly talk about their time there.
Are there any vets at TD that read the OT? Will you tell us about your experiences with the anonymity of TD?

They hate China and therefore you so I doubt they will be very forthcoming

Rule #1. Never ask a vet to talk about their service. If they chose to, unsolicited, that’s another matter.

I have a Vietnam vet that works for me. His stories are all similar, getting shot at, and then them all turning and leveling the jungle in that direction. Says it was hard to know if you actually were the one that killed anyone , barely ever actually saw a enemy soldier alive.

I’ve seen some things, man. And some stuff

Of course. Just wondering if there are stories one might tell here they wouldn't in person.
What prompted this thread was a call from a friend of mine's kid wanting to know what I knew about his father's service. I told him he would have to ask his Dad even though I knew a few things he had told me.

Why is it any of your business of what happened there and why would military guys discuss it with your unpatriotic arse? Not trying to bring in politics, but you are a sad leftist.

Take your politics to the poli board.
You are absolutely an idiot if you think me a leftist.
If the poli board defines left and right for you then you are without a single brain cell capable of independent thought.
Don't hijack this thread with your twisted thinking.

I knew one of them as a kid. I see the last died in 2011. I wish I had known enough to talk to that old man more.

I B isn’t a leftist.
He’s just really seems to love him some China.
The flak he gets over there is because his beliefs aren’t pro MAGA.
As far as Vietnam goes my dad had some good friends I’d go shooting with when I was growing up. One day one of them wore an Army hat with Vietnam Vet on the front.
I asked him what he did over there. He stopped, stared me down and said “son, I did things for my country I’m proud of for politicians I’m not proud of” and that was all he would say about that.
Would imagine many feel that way, they are proud of what they did for their country but not happy about being sent over there or the treatment they got when they came back.
Father in law was Air Force and talked about having to take off his uniform stateside in CA to avoid getting spit on. Tough time to serve.
