Any truth to the stop sign rumors?

Apparently the rumor has it that if a stop signs does not have an "official " state sticker on the back, then you are supposedly not legally obligated to stop at it.
I've googled it and have not found a definite answer.
Anyone heard of this bs?

If it has white around the edge you can disregard entirely, it's in the constitution

The easiest way to tell is if they have a white edge. Stop signs with white edges are illegal.

I'd stop anyways just to be safe. You can't see the backside of the sign anyways while driving.....it would be stupid to assume it doesn't have one.

I haven't gotten one.
The subject was brought up the other night at halftime, when people were discussing the 2 new sign on our road that were put up about 4 days after a drunk dumbass went through that intersection at a high rate of speed and then crashed at the end of the road, which is about a qtr mile past the signs.

100% true. From 02-08 I worked on a crew that put the stickers on. Every once in a while we'd skip one and sit back and watch all the idiots stop when they didn't need to.

No you lose momentum, time and fuel. By yielding all the previous loses are negligible at best went compared to stopping completely

They do have optional stop signs. They are easy to spot.
