I've owned the Tahoe and the 4Runner and without question the 4Runner was the better vehicle hands down. GM can't compete. Change the oil in a Toyota and keep it maintained and it will last forever. Tahoe had transmission go out, passenger rear power window twice, A/C x 3, all gauges went out, computer panel needed to be replaced. That's all I can remember right now, but there was more. Just bought a 2017 SR5, and can't think of a single negative thing to say about it. It can do anything that I reasonably need it to do, and is great for hauling the family too (went with the fold down third row). Looking forward to driving it fo the next 15 years, until the kids are gone and I can buy an old Jeep and a shovelhead

4Runners are hideous but all mid size SUVs look somewhat the same. Just blah.

It is weak under the hood. Also is a terrible riding SUV.

Wife drives an '07 we purchased 2nd hand. 2wheel drive, 4.0 V6, about 82k miles. Really nice vehicle. By the way, gas mpg isn't that bad, fwiw

I had an '07 Tacoma until I smashed the radiator to my lap and tried to out my head through the windshield, while riding with just liability insurance on it... figured it couldn't have been worth all that much being 10 years old, but HOLY shite those damn things hold their value. Damn thing had a BBV of like $14-15K with 120K miles on th dash...... honestly if I had knows it was over $10K I'd have had it insured to avoid so big of a lose.

The Mrs, no pics, drove a Limited version for 9 years. Decent storage capacity, good gas mileage, no serious mechanical issues.

We have two 4runners. I traded in my Tahoe for a 4Runner. My wife's is a 2010 and all we have done is change oil, tires and brakes. My Tahoe was in the shop 4 times in the 15 months I owned it.

Really like the red pros. But will probably go with a red off-road premium. They are about 10k less

I'd switch from a full size truck to a 4 runner in a heart beat but their tow capacity has gone to shite. My boat loaded down is 4K lbs and while that ain't over the limit I don't like pushing it that close. I really don't understand it either cause the taco has a limit of like 7k I believe.

Pros:
They last FOREVER
The 4x4 versions are very capable off-roaders. The Trail model and TRD Pro model especially.
Easy to park

Cons:
Interior space. They're narrow.

If you want something you can own for 10 years with zero trouble and can help you escape the apocalypse (or go on a backroad adventure in Colorado) and dont have 3 kids to tote around, 4Runner all the way. If you are willing to sacrifice longevity for creature comforts in the short term, or have a bunch of kids, get a Yukon/Tahoe.

LOL. It rides FINE for a real SUV. The problem is you are comparing it to a market that is 99% made up of bitch-made unibody "crossovers", which are cars with lift kits. Crossovers ride like the cars they are, but they're less capable towers and incapable, easily damaged off-roaders.

I just traded my 16 Tacoma for a 16 4Runner. The 4Runner is 10 times what the Tacoma was. It rides way better, quiter, more space, and easier on long drives. I am getting almost 21mpg in my 4x4 SR5. The only complaint so far is that I got the lower level entune radio. No nav or apps. I can't control Pandora through the head unit, so I have to use the phone to change channels. I can skip songs through the head unit or stearing wheel. I did get XM though.
Tacoma had 13k miles and had rattles everywhere, probably 10 or more TSB's need to be done, and 2 recalls. Transmission was absolute shite.

Same. I'd consider a 4Runner over a truck/tahoe, but towing a boat with one would suck.

That's unfortunate about your '16 Tacoma, but that's the risk you taking buying the first model year of a new generation vehicle. I always prefer to wait a few years and let them work out all the issues whenever a new generation comes out.

I tow a 19ft. skeeter without any problems. I do have to take it slow when I am backing down on steep ramps though.

Check out Toyota-4runner.org. They will tell you everything you want to know.

I moved from a Tahoe to the Trail Premium model (now the TRD off-road). One of the best decisions I have made. Super nice inside, ultra-capable off road, still a truck frame. With the sunroof open, back glass down, and windows down it feels like riding around in a open top jeep, but you aren't stuck with a noisy wrangler all the time.

Rides a little rougher, gas mileage sucks, and the lower towing capacity are really the only downsides.
