Any recommendations for a fear of flying?
My serious answer is to fly more often.
My first flight since being 3 years old or so was at 15. From 15 to 24 I flew a handful of times and I was really nervous and sweaty all the time.
At 24, I decided to fly to Greece. In a 3 week period I had 9 separate flights. That repetition helped control my fear. Now I fly about 5/6 times a year.

I've probably flown over 500,000 miles over the last 7 years and, while I'm still not over my fear, it's less than it used to be. I never really get nervous until I'm in the air. Takeoff and descent are where I find myself getting the most nervous. I find it helps to look around at other passengers and flight attendants. If they're pretty calm, I'm more at ease.

Have you flown lately? Most of them are not worthy of that noble title.

Have a drink on the plane and Just don't think about stuff like this - you'll be good to go.

Clear your browser history before you leave.
Pick a favorite hymn to sing on the way down.
Good luck and godspeed.

Once it's in the air you will have zero control of anything that can happen.
Sit back and relax.

Don't be a pussy. Just get on the jet. It's gonna be fine.

This is a good answer for long term success. I was deathly afraid of flying because of my mother's fears projected onto me from a young age, but now I flown so much that it's a lot easier. I still have my moments, but they're less frequent. You're looking for more of a short term solution and I know a lot of people that use medication and it works fine.

My sister had the worst fear and was a wreck after a really bad flight when she was in HS. She went hired a coach to help her, its like a shrink that works in a classroom with a group and then takes them on super short flights and they work their way up, and between that and some xanax she is good to go. The group thing helped her the most because its like 5 or 6 people who meet for like 4 one hour sessions but even after only knowing each other that long you don't want to be the pussy of the group so you tough it through a 30 minute each way roundtrip flight, move to an hour, move to 2 hours etc. Since it was a group and they didn't care where they were going they always got it dirt cheap, maybe took her 6 weeks, 4 classes with 4 flights , and $1000 in total expenses to get over it.

Nothing helps fear of flying except to fly more. Experience is the only thing that overcomes it.

Tell your doc, he'll give you a few Ativans. Wash it down with a bourbon. Over time it will diminish.

Good luck with the Xanax and booze. You won't believe how quickly you'd sober up should the wing fall off mid flight.

This! You have zero control over what happens and worrying definitely will not change a single thing.
Relax and read a book.
