Hawaii has a very mixed, and very beautiful, population. The women there are gorgeous.

Hawaii is one of the most beautiful places I have visited.

Hear They’re about to get a Chik-Fil-A, so yeah, I would take it.
Seriously though...I’ve spent some time there. Very expensive for everything. The natives are very suspicious of “Haole-s” (non-islanders) and can be rude. If you are respectful of their traditions and show interest in the culture, they are ok. The first thing I was asked when I got to island by colleagues was if “I got offended by racist jokes”. They are not politically correct and say whatever they want. Definitely worth doing for a few years.

Up on the West side of the island around Makaha, the locals don't like anyone that is not Hawaiian. I'm islander and I don't feel comfortable in some of those places. But if the waves are pumping, everyone goes. Just stay away from the tents in the public parks. There's a real nice beach all the way up at the end of the highway on the West side though.

We have some neighbors who just moved to Texas from Hawaii due to (it sucks). No housing , largest homeless population in the US. No electricity or running water, gallon of milk is $12.00, loaf of bread $8.00.

I lived on Ohau for four years.
Locals- I only had one semi-negative experience and many good ones but I've heard enough and read enough stories to know that some of the locals are assholes. This one is a wash for me because my positive experiences cancel out the horror stories I've heard but it's definitely something to be aware of. Keep in mind that the "natives" are a relatively small segment of the population. I do believe this gets at least slightly overblown on the internet. Most of the stories I heard involved people stumbling onto the meth camps along the Waianae coast. Avoid this area at all costs. It isn't that far from Kapolei.
Schools- Public schools are terrible. You are going to want to do private so budget for that.
Island fever- Some people get it, some people don't. Unfortunately, there's no way to know until you try it. Most people that suffer from it take a couple of trips to the West Coast or something every year.
COL- If you can shop on post it really helps because, no doubt about it, shite is expensive there.
Kapolei- Not my favorite part of the island but it's full of new developments and shopping. Parts of it feel like the mainland which is nice sometimes.

Lived there 5 years. Enjoying that amazing place is beyond description. But after 3 years, I was dying to get out. Island fever is legit.
Its the same damn thing every frickin day. Weather, traffic, distrust in haoles, high prices ($17 for a lg. one topping Pizza Hut pizza). Nothing changes. And your kids will catch shite at public school for being haole.
And watching sports? You have to be up at 7AM to catch the early NFL or college football games.

Never lived in Oahu, but I've lived on the Big Island. Love it. No reason not to take the job. It's called paradise for a reason.
Americans like to hype a lot of places and things. Most of the time, they don't meet the hype. Hawaii is one of those places that does.

If you have to commute to Honolulu from there for work though, expect ridiculous weekday traffic. The H1 gridlock is a thing.
If you live and work in Kapolei, you're all set.

It’s more along the lines of not liking folks like the OP coming along and taking limited land that could go to a native.
I’m my experience, they are more than courteous to tourists.
Just don’t give an indication of interest in living there. They can get cold quick.
