Any posters that live or have lived in Hawaii?

Got a job offer on Oahu. Cost of living is way higher than where I live now, but the pay more than covers the difference.
Any reason not to take it?

I had a buddy that lived there years ago and said the natives weren't particularly fond of white folks that aren't there as tourists. Not sure how true that is.

Hawaii has 12 income tax brackets.
If the raise covers all the new expenses, go for it.

Since most of the natives are now Japanese, I can see that.
If I was going to be paid for the cost of living increase it would be cool to live there a while but being detached from the mainland that far would get old. I knew lots of guys that got stationed there. Made me jealous.

If you aren't married and want to live in another area before deciding to settle down, then I would do it.

I would take it in a heartbeat. I interviewed for a job out there, but unfortunately the pay for my work is about the same whether I do it in Lafayette or Oahu.
If I would have received an offer that would have covered even half of the difference in COL I would have taken it.

I would 100% go for it then. It's such a more laid back atmosphere out there. I have family who live there and they love it. I'm ready to go back for sure.

Don't ask advice here. Go with your gut, the move can be an experience or a lifetime. You'll probably regret not trying more than moving and coming back in a few years.

Schooling is below average unless you go private

Variety of good food is diminished
Chance of island fever
You have the opportunity to increase your earning power and live in Hawaii. You can return stateside in a couple to three years should you tire of it. There are a few positives too.

I always like to try to find as much info as possible before deciding on something like this.
I've also got some feelers out in the industry about the culture and atmosphere of the company that's offering. Barring a really toxic situation there, I'm leaning towards taking it.
