I did one for a while. It’s fun, but can be a lot of work. You don’t need a ton of equipment, but good mics are key. If you think you’ll be the next Joe Rogan, you’ll be very disappointed. It’s a fun way to have conversations and engage with people, but if you don’t already have a big following on another platform, it’s hard to make an audience and create any meaningful revenue. The only real reason I stopped was because of the time commitment. Besides that, it was fun, and I got some recognition in our little niche world from it when we traveled for events and stuff.

I used a Zoom podtrac P8 to record into. Handled multiple mics and a phone call. Edited with Audacity on a Chromebook. As said it's a lot more time than you think. I just edited for noise reduction from an AC and such. Occasionally content. The recording and BS'n with friends telling stories was fun. Need to start it back up. We just did audio but recorded it off a Skype type deal a couple times for phone guests.

Yea i quit my job and started a podcast last month. We already are projected to be making hundreds of thousands of dollars in just a few short years once we get a few more key investments. It takes money to make money once you get your ducks in a row with a clear game changer worth circling back for after a few top down pivots.

So close. You mean a Podocaster.
A Podcaster is a Chinese knockoff

What would a guy need to do vids like this;
Don't get too caught up in perfect quality. That's something for people with 6-figure subs trying to get to 7-figures. You can do something like that with a decent USB mic. Bigger thing to concentrate on is mic placement and avoiding excess noise.
Pro tip: go look on FB Marketplace. I always see about 1 new podcast setup being dumped for pennies every other day or so.

My brother thinks we should do a podcast. Anyone on here have any experience in this area?
I created three different shows and two were picked up by distributors. Seven years of experience. Email me your questions and I'll be glad to help. nrideaux@gmail.com

Id' be willing to bet there's a million youtube videos describing step by step what you can do. And if you haven't figured out how to search for this information yet (outside of asking the OT baws) I have a feeling your podcast will be a complete flop.

My brother used to do the TechnoRetro Dads" podcast under the name Shazbazzar. It took about two hours to prep, two hours to record, and about four to six hours to edit and produce a 77 minute podcast. (He always made his podcasts 77 minutes long because Star Wars came out in '77.)
He also sits in with Steve Glossen occasionally to do podcasts for "Geek Out Loud" or the "Big Honkin' Show." Steve does a lot of work in prep as well as editing to make it flow nicely. A result of this is that he hasn't released an episode of "Big Honkin' Show" in a long time and "Geek Out Loud" isn't done weekly like it once was.
Prep, production, and post-production are going to be the big time drainers in podcasting. Of course, depending on your topic, prep time will vary.
Insofar as gear for recording, a good laptop is a necessity as well as a decent mic. Make sure to use a pop filter for your mic. It makes a difference.
Another thing my brother would do on podcasts he would produce is that he would pan the hosts' voices about 15 to 20 degrees left and right in a stereo mix to give the audience kind of a sense of being in the studio with them. It sounded like you were sitting at the table across from them with one to your left and one on your right as they discussed the day's topics.

Asking the OT baws is only one source I'm working on, but thanks anyway.

I did one a few years back.
It was fun. It is one of those things that take practice to get good at.
Don't think about it. If you have something interesting to say, just do it.
