My ENT wants to prescribe levaquin for chronic sinusitis, but I’ve read (and heard) some bad things about it. Side effects can get serious. The FDA even warns against its use for minor issues like sinus infections.

But I haven’t tasted food much in the past five months, so I’m being open to ideas. I was on 14 days of doxycycline and methylprednisolone a few weeks ago, which helped for a short term. CT scan showed my sinuses were clear, but the doctor wants to jump to levaquin now that my symptoms have returned. Really only symptom is loss of taste and smell with some minor stuffiness deep in my nose.

I’ve tried everything. It’s not really post nasal drip or runny nose. It’s deep in my sinuses, and outside of loss of taste and smell, I wouldn’t notice anything else.

Levaquin is the Mike Tyson of antibiotics.

Take the pill and consider the job done.

You have a reason not to exercise. Can cause tendon rupture. Enjoy being fat

Levaquin is pretty common use for refractory sinusitis.

Sounds like you had covid/uri 5months ago and your smell/taste hasn't recovered.

1 - condolences on the AIDS
2 - ents are smart folks generally. the fact you failed antibiotics may justify escalating the antibiotic of choice.

Anosmia can also be a side effect of high dose frequent antibiotics if i remember correctly.

you need a strong antibiotic like Levaquin. Be careful with running and athletic stuff. It can cause tendon rupture or damage.

It should give you a lot of relief.

I get sinus infections as you describe. It takes a few days but saline rinses eventually give me relief.

I'd get a second opinion to see if there are any alternatives. Levaquin is like firing a flamethrower into your intestines. Not good for your gut microbiome and your long-term health.

It was prescribed to me about 12 years ago due to penicillin allergy. Within 15 minutes, my throat had swollen and had difficulty breathing. Wife called 911 and they did their thing saving me from something worse. I had never taken it before.

All I can say is if you have any bad allergies, the first time you take something new then have someone you trust be there and observe you for any side effects. If it is a bad reaction then it will happen quick.
