I don't hate BR, but I've also never been there.

Last time I was in BR I saw a man just pissing in the middle of the street in broad daylight downtown. Cops nearby didn't do a damb thing.very sad. The good people of that city need to revolt!

I hated it to the point of having a breakdown after I graduated LSU. Best thing I ever did was move out of there. No energy and the traffic suffocates any chance of improvement.

It's unfortunate that BR has taken the direction that it has. My family has lived in BR for about 100 years, and nobody is optimistic about the future of the city. My parents think my wife and I should move to St. Francisville. My parents just moved into a fortified gated community to retire. I don't think BR is going to get better any time soon, especially with people like Broome and Gary Chambers running the show. Now that she has won, St. George is all but done and it will be the nail in the coffin of BR. I hate it but BR is turning into Jackson, MS. A total dump that has seen all of the wealth move out of the city because of crime and incompetent leadership. White flight is going to devastate the city.

Is that still the same after the flood?

I mean, don't you think there were businesses outside of LA that were gonna come to BR...that rethought that plan after the flood?

And what about businesses that already backed out?(Bucees, etc)

crime dropping

BR made national news twice due to shootings involving police officers(one where the cops killed someone, the other where cops were the ones killed). That doesn't scream "crime dropping" to me.

If you had never visited Baton Rouge(or Louisiana for that matter) and your only experience of Baton Rouge was the stuff you saw on the news regarding the shootings and flood.....would that make you say "hey, now that is a city I want to visit"?

Wait, are you insinuating that there is reason to be hopeful that BR will become a thriving city? Seriously? Please continue to try to persuade me that Baton Rouge is the next Austin, TX. Seriously.

Homicides drop in Baton Rouge in 2016 to lowest level in decade

quote:

In only one other year since 1989 have fewer people been slain within the city. The drop comes even as homicide rates in many cities across the country — including New Orleans — have surged.

quote:

The majority of the victims, though, continued to fit a disturbing and vexing pattern: Black men between the ages of 17 and 36 made up 44 percent of those slain.

Louisiana - born and raised. I lived out of state for quite a while and had to move back due to family illness issues.

This entire state is a cesspool and a laughingstock. If you've never lived anywhere else, I would challenge you to try it and get a better picture of how Louisiana stacks up against other states.

What about other crimes? Is that dropping as well?

You have more people in much more dire financial situations because of the flood. Many more people desperate, which could motivate them to committing crimes such as theft, etc.

2016 Crime Map

Cool site that the city has implemented. I know that doesnt really answer your question, but you can see where the hotspots are.

You mean the shootings which were handled better than any other city in recent memory?

So you see two shootings and just assume crime is up? Have a feeling you believe a lot of stuff on facebook too.

You also have more people who had to be displaced to other areas thus less people to commit crimes.

Anyone can spin something and throw out a hypothetical.

so crazy I just bought land in St. Francisville area. Plan on building up there. Its just far enough from BR to feel like your in the country but close enough if you really need to do something like take the kids to the movies.
