I've never had glasses before, but I am becoming pretty nearsighted as I age. I noticed they do eye exams at Wal-Mart for like 50 bucks. I figure it's all a machines and computers anyway nowadays, so why should I make an appointment, wait a month, and pay some douche optometrist $200 for what I can get this afternoon for $50 at Wal-Mart. But never having had glasses, is this a bad idea?

I went to Walmark Vision Center when I was in school and poor. They were ok if you're not wanting to spend too much

No, but I did go to Sam's once when I was fresh out of school and didn't have vision insurance.

Just go to lens crafters or something. They usually have a real optometrist working there and its a free exam.

Wal Mart is probably the last place I would want to be able to see more clearly.

Walmart's optometrists are real optometrists. They are not on Walmarts payroll.

That is correct. They rent the space. But they also know the clientele, so don't expect to get high end frames there.

Yes I've gotten and eye exam from Walmart and it was fine. Of course this was a non-trashy Walmart (at least as non trashy as Walmart gets) in suburbia. I.E. no Medicaid accepted.

Like the 20 different brands the Luxxotica stamps on their glasses?

Once. Not bad, the doctor was retired military. Supposedly a separate enterprise from Walmart. I didn't like the glasses, though. And the Walmart part of the service was poor.
