I remember reading a story from the Vietnam war. The village near where some guys were stationed was friendly to US troops. It was a mutual relationship with both groups helping each other. One of the men in the village was a barber and would cut the soldier's hair and give them shaves. He used a straight razor and hot towel and was great at it.
After a firefight one night they were policing the bodies and one of the dead was that barber. The guy telling the story said that his skin still crawls to this day when he thinks about sitting in that chair with his eyes closed and feeling that razor running across his neck.

I personally have not done the straight razoring but I have gotten my face and neck done at a barber where they use a straight razor. It is amazing.

My hands are way too shaky for a str razor. My jawline would be carved up
I prefer a slighly dull blade.

I've had a barber do it and it was an awesome shave. I'd be too scared of cutting my own throat. I use a safety razor though and love it. The blades are cheap enough to use a new one every shave. Get yourself a nice marble shaving dish and a badger brush, you feel fancy AF every morning.

I had an old wade and butcher 7/8 for barbers use straight razor. It was amazing. I used an apache strata stone for honing it. Worked really well. It was a really nice ritual so to speak.
Eventually I did get tired of the maintenance and length of time it took to shave. From start to finish it was about 30 minutes counting stropping and such.
I've used an above the tie slant de razor for years now and it's by far the best razor I've used and I've tried many razors. I will say that a single edge is the closest you can get to a straight razor while still have a handle to manipulate.
Slightly off topic, my favorite soap maker is mikes natural. Barrister and mann is really good but the scents are kinda out there sometimes. Phoenix artisan and Stirling and great too.

I use one to line my beard and clean up any misses. It took me a legit 4 months and lots of blood before I figured it out. The key is the angle. You never use the whole razor.

I use one to line up my beard on my cheeks. Easier to know exactly where the blade is compared to one of those razors with "6 blade technology" or whatever. I can line it up with more precision.

I don’t know why they call it a straight razor when real men have beards
I don't know why this one made me laugh so hard.

A double edged safety razor is the apex of shaving technology. Everything before and after is a step in the wrong direction.
This has been my personal experience as well.

I've used a safety razor for the last 10 years. Could never go back. I guess there was a slight learning curve at first. I keep a beard and only shave my neck and cheeks. I've thought about trying out a straight razor since I really don't have to work around jawline and stuff. But the safety razor works well enough.

Naw. I use Harry's. It's like a 37 blade razor. Never missing anything.

I'm the same way, and I've been thinking about getting one. I shave my neck and cheeks every Saturday/Sunday and one more time in the middle of the week. And I get my wife to shave the back of my neck about 2 weeks after a haircut. Only takes a couple of minutes in the shower, but I would like something I could get a cleaner line with over the Mach 3. I found the 4 and 5 blade razors are too difficult to get a clean line with. Currently using a 3 blade Schick disposable, and between that and the Mach 3, there is less clogging.

Do yourself a favor and go to a safety razor. Clogging isn't a thing. I can go well over a week without shaving and knock it out just as fast as if I'm doing a daily shave. It's so nice. And I should change my blade more often, but I don't. I shave maybe 3 times a week, and haven't changed my blade in like 2 months.

Why? Cheaper. Cleaner.
How well? Better than anything else.
Get yourself a dovo

I get a beard trim with a straight razor every time I get a haircut.
