Shelby stanga claims he was bitten more than a hundred times. He picked one up one the show and let it bite him. Then bit it's head off.

No but I was sitting on a tricycle as a kid with a cottonmouth curled up sleeping right underneath me. my parents came into the garage and slowly pulled me off the trike. That damn snake never moved an inch they said.

They still have a photograph of the snake underneath the tricycle in a scrapbook somewhere

Dogs handle cottonmouth bites just fine. They swell up like the chick from willy Wonka but ut doesn't mess them up too bad.

We had a pregnant blue tick coon hound that got bit in the neck, her neck swelled up the size of a cantaloupe.

I was a kid and felt sure she would die but she survived and had the litter of pups.

One went on to be Grand Night Champion and was a bad arse, best one we ever had.

We played in the creek in Wimbledon neighborhood as kids and a kid named Joey (can't remember last name) used to pick those frickers up. One nicked his thumb and his arm "swolt" up just like two balloons.

The whole OT knows the story, at least those around like 10 years ago. Not rehashing that one though.

the joy I have gotten picking up and tossing a northern water snake on someone who thinks it is a cottonmouth is absolutely priceless so I guess I am ahead either way.

Anyone do that to me they will end up going to the hospital one way or the other.

My son got bit by one on the ankle a couple of years ago. Went to the local ER. Only the ankle was swollen at the time. They decided to keep him for the night. Well about 10 hrs later, his leg was swole up to the calf. They administered several vials of anti-venom. Stayed in ICU for 4 days. Took about 2 weeks before he could put all his weight on his foot.

Wish I had a dollar for every time someone has misidentified one of a number of non-venomous water snake species for a cottonmouth.

I read the Outdoor Board, and am always amazed at the number of “outdoorsman” that can’t distinguish between a venomous, and non-venomous snake, or even identify common snakes.

Yes at 14. Picked up a pile of fence post on a pond levee. Had several small ones mixed in with the dirt. Bit me on the hand. Was sick before I ever made it to the hospital. No fun.

Was walking with my son around the woods a couple weeks ago. I was recording him because he was explaining the nature to me. I stopped him because I saw something move, then saw the copperhead. At first, I thought he stepped over it. The video clearly shows he stepped on its tail and instead of biting him, the snake tried to get away until he picked up his foot. It was the biggest copperhead I’ve seen around 2’. We were lucky. A coworker got bit on the hand a couple years ago. He got anti venom in Baton Rouge he said had to be flown from Florida.

Got tagged by a Copperhead when I was a teenager. Picked it up after smashing it with a rock. I was trying to scare some girls with it.....it bit my forearm. I got sick for a couple of days but did not go to the hospital.

My dog had 3 bullet holes in him, to go with the eye he lost use of, from a cottonmouth bite to the dome almost 2 years prior. Lived almost a decade after the shooting, a dozen years post snake bite. Mf'er was indestructible, minus his hips at 13+ years old.
