Mississippi is having an upward trend in cases. I'd like cases to level out before opening everything.

Just got off the phone with the lead doctor for Oxford a moment ago. They have their final meeting with the MS Dept. of Health tomorrow afternoon to submit their proposal. She said the consensus is to proceed with Phase 1 Monday with continued intent of hygiene, small grouping, and quarantine for those who are highly-vulnerable (old and unhealthily). They said they are expecting all non-contact sports to resume June 1. and school to resume 100% completely normal August 1. She did say that some counties, like Lauderdale, may be behind in opening and that the 82 counties may have different phases. Likely Meridian and Jackson will be last to fully resume.

I look at the North MS Heath Service webpage based in Tupelo. Thay have 7 hospitals covering 24 counties. They list the # of Covid inpatients in their hospital system and update the # daily. The highest # so far has been 25 inpatients and it usual is around 15-18. That's around 3ish or less Covid inpatients per hospital. The local news said they were losing 28 million a month due to Covid.

Hospitals are going broke right now because they are not performing other services. Remember, due to COVID, flu rates and other infecitons are down, no driving means fewer accidents, no elective services, etc. We are going to open and if we can open and be responsible, things looks very promising.

Maybe, just maybe, flu rates aren’t actually down. Maybe they’re just being counted as Covid-19 cases. Silly rascals!
