6.4 is a turd.

6.0 is ok with an EGR delete and stud kit (about $2K).

An old 7.3 will outlive your grand kids.

The first few years of the 6.7 are decent with the EGR delete and stud package (2011-2014) The 2015 and up 6.7 are much better but I'd still EGR delete them the day after the factory warranty runs out.

7.3 or it isn’t for me. All bs aside I have a 7.3 and a 6.7. The 6.7 is stout as can be and is beginning to become a proven motor. The 6.7 was the ford engineers last chance to build a motor. If it didn’t work out they were gonna outsource again. At the end of the day though I’d sell the new one and keep the 7.3 bc I know they are good for a half a million with minimal repair and maintence.

Do as stated in an earlier post. Save the headache and find a used 6.7. The 6.4 is a crap shoot.

If I remember correctly those are a couple grand it will go out every few years. You can wash it out and reinstall it(videos on youtube of how to do it) but Ford will try to take you to the cleaners on it.

If it were me I'd go with a Duramax unless you just love Fords. Just remember that nothing on a diesel is cheap to repair.

the 6.4 the cylinder heads are the biggest problem with valve guide tolerances not being in spec and water jackets in the rear of the heads cracking causing it to burn coolent

So that’s why mine always smells like burning antifreeze and I have to add some once in awhile. Thought I had a small leak I couldn’t find

On an F250, you're taking the cab off every time you want to do a big repair to the engine ($1000+)

Its dpf. You have to put a tune on the truck after you dpf delete or it wont start

I found a used 2008 6.4L diesel F-250

Hopefully you haven't purchased yet. I would steer way fricking clear of the 6.0 and 6.4. If you must own a ferd, get the 7.3 or a 6.7.

The Duramax (any year), or a Cummins (any year) is a good option for a diesel. I would stay way the hell away from a ferd diesel that has a 6.0 or 6.4 under the hood.

No, I didn’t buy the Ford and am going to pass on this one. Glad I did some research and won’t have the headaches. Great advice from all the OT’ers and was surprised there was so little chatter on the truck nuts. I owned one Ford in my life and it was a piece of junk so it sounds like I dodged a bullet. I have a GMC Sierra with a gas engine but it won’t tow the heavy stuff. Will look for Duramax and Cummins engines.

"It was quieter, cleaner and more powerful than any engine yet built for Ford trucks, and it was being produced amid a wave of bad blood and lawsuits taking place between FoMoCo and Navistar over the problematic 6.0L. The power plant in question is the 6.4L Power Stroke. Based on the same basic architecture as the 6.0L, the 6.4L retained the exact same 4.13-inch stroke (but a larger 3.87-inch bore), a crankcase bed-plate, four-valve, cast-iron cylinder heads and integrated oil cooler, although oil flow is slightly different due to the 6.4L not utilizing a hydraulically actuated fuel injection system. Beyond those similarities, a host of differences set the 6.4L vastly apart from its predecessor.

Perhaps the biggest news on the 6.4L was that high-pressure common-rail injection had replaced HEUI. This provided for quieter engine operation, 25 more horsepower, 80 more lb-ft of torque and also contributed to NOx and particulate matter emissions being reduced by 50 percent and 90 percent, respectively. Other means for lowering pollutants called for the use of a second EGR cooler, a more efficient EGR valve and a diesel particulate filter. More big changes included the addition of a compound turbocharger arrangement, a fuel cooling circuit, a better water pump and a larger radiator with an increased capacity cooling fan"

I had a 6.0 with less problems than some people I knew with the 6.4. Everyone I knew with the 6.4 dumped them as soon as the 6.7 came out. Get rid of it before it costs you more than the truck is worth.

7.3 is stout, but they are slow and they had more than their fair share of transmission issues. I'd go built 6.0 or new 6.7.

Sorry I didn’t buy my f-250 to drag race. Excuse my ignorance on this one. I bet you roll coal at every redlight lol.
