When I was 32, the wife and I quit our jobs and took a trip around the world. A life changing experience and would highly recommend it.
we plan to do it again once we are pet-free. But we can't do that again to our 15 year old cat. I am thinking we do it around 46 or 47.

This is true for most people. You have to actively combat it though. Read books, watch movies, listen to podcasts, etc. about getting out of the "routine" of life, and get into the habit of doing random shite. If you don't actively remind yourself that "normal life" is a bunch of bullshite, you'll fall back into the trap. It's an ongoing battle, as you're reminded everyday about what "normal life" is, you just have to constantly fight it.

I'm glad I can find happiness in my day to day live, but I love what I do, and always have, so I guess that helps.

No kids and no wife and I have a job I can do anywhere. I have thought about doing what the OP describes but my parents are getting older and my dad was diagnosed with cancer 3 months ago. I will stay here to take care of them for now because I would hate myself if I moved away and didn't. It sucks sometimes when I think about moving and know I can't, but after all they've done for me, it's the least I can do for them. That's life I guess.

I can't tell you the last time I was bored. Read a book, watch a movie, play a video game, go to a movie, hang out with friends, get some work done, build something, you name it. There is always something to do. I have some family-like friends and godchildren I would miss like crazy too if I ever moved.

Tried to move a little farther from home when I graduated college. Ended up about an hour and a half away. With an elderly grandfather and father with heart problems, I've realized that moving away and not spending time with them would've been one of my life's greatest regrets.
The more I think about it the more I realize it isn't where you are but who you are with that matters. I could go anywhere with my SO and enjoy it. We spend a lot of time in St. Gabriel and I can't say I've ever been bored there.

we got pregnant last november after trying for a while. 8 weeks in, she had to have the baby and Fallopian tube removed because it ruptured. We can't try for a while....

I'm doing it in about four or five months. Getting the hell out of Baton Rouge and moving to the East Coast. What is really holding you back? Are you just scared that it may not work out? As long as neither of you in a convicted felon or look as if you live in a van down by the river, you should have no problem finding a "whatever" job until you get something more stable. And think about if you ever do decide to have a kid, are you going to raise it in Baton Rouge? I sure as frick am not. Bottom line-DO IT!!!

You have enough money to not work? Or is your plan to pick up and start over the same life in a different location? Sounds like a lot of effort with no real goal or end game other than falling back to the normal routine, but hey, this is the OT where it's all black and white and the risky move is always the best, so yea, man, sell all your shite and move to Boston or Denver or some little beach town with no job or prospects. Should work out well.
