That's about the age that you realize that you have been conditioned since birth. You were sold a bill of goods about what was supposed to bring fulfillment and happiness only to get what you want and ask yourselves "Is this all there is to life for the next fifty years?" Keep it interesting, travel, move, learn and make new friends in new places. It will make you a stronger, more self aware and self reliant couple. And certainly since there are no issues with young children. Go for it, I say.

I have a buddy that has lived everywhere from Key West to a place near the mountains in North Colorado where he's a park ranger. He's got a degree in IT, but only does freelance stuff on the side to stay current. He and his family decided last month to move to North California - they moved this past weekend. He has some awesome pictures and stories, but there's no way in hell I could live like that. but to each their own.

In my early work career, I traveled a ton and got to experience a lot of cool things and places. Now that I'm in the same sort of situation as you, I have the feeling that I'm missing out on those cool things. I also know it would open more opportunities for my wife to develop her business. If it weren't for my family and my job, I'd be somewhere within a couple hours of Asheville, NC.

Lots of truth to this. While I agree you should get the hell out of Baton Rouge, many times boredom comes from the person not the environment.
I've struggled with the same thing, and I find myself moving around so much (same city, different areas) because I think changing the scenery will change my attitude. After living in the French Quarter for my second time I've finally figured out it's not about my environment. I have a pretty fun life, I just don't appreciate it.
I heard a quote from some random movie one day that stuck with me. A boy told his mom he was bored and she responded with "Only boring people are bored."

It doesn't matter where you live, you'll end up doing the same shite. Wake up, eat breakfast, go to work, pick up kids, take kids to their activities, eat dinner, help kids with homework, do some chores around the house, might have 30-hour to relax and watch tv, shower, go to sleep, then do the same routine over again.
That's the way we've been trained to live. I'm with you though. I'm tired of doing the same shite day in and day out, but I truly believe that even if I moved across the country, I would fall back into doing the same stuff again. We as Americans work too damn much and place acquiring money, wealth, and prestige over spending time with family, friends, and our general happiness.

Always a good choice. And the city is very committed to helping local startup companies if you want to start a business. Very creative, entrepreneurial community. As is all of western North Carolina. Look into Boone, Blowing Rock area as well.

I think about just moving from place to place with limited possessions and various employment. How long is that sustainable though? That is the question I can't answer.
