Possibly, or you could go with the group who got duped into destroying the economy over a bad flu bug. We'll see eventually

I know I never know which side is the inside and which is the outside of the one I use. Good thing I don't really give a shite and only wear it at costco.

Not my line of work, not that there would be anything wrong with that, and hopefully, my image on this message board can recover.

See, this is my problem. They don’t have to be two separate groups. You can think it’s just a bad flu bug and still wear a mask in public so that we can limit the spread of the bad flu bug.

A cloth mask to a Virus is like a Chain link fence to a gnat. Fauci knows it, he said masks were of no use in early March--until they got to him and made him do a 180.

I wear a neck gaiter out of courtesy of others in case I sneeze or cough. Other than that, if I’m going to get sick, a mask isn’t going to help. Bring it on.

It’s not to stop the actual virus on the molecular level. It’s to stop the human fluid the virus travels in. Similar to when cops strap a mesh hood on perps that spit.

I don't think they hurt.

But your observations about people reusing masks without laundering them is probably causing other shite.

No it doesn't.

Improperly wearing an N95 mask such that 0.5% - 2% of the total filtering area is bypassed results in a 60% decrease in the effectiveness of the mask providing protection. It gets much worse for lesser masks, for homemade ones the effectiveness can drop to 5%. Now STFU you uneducated little tard.

Assuming your numbers are correct, is a 40% filtration rate better than nothing?

I do have a better question, though. Will the group of people refusing to wear a mask (something super cheap, easy, and harmless) for unknown reasons go down as one of the dumbest movements in modern American history?

Watched someone test their blood O2 sats go from 99 to 88 wearing a non-vented N95 mask over about an hour and doing nothing more than sitting in a chair. Pefectly healthy individual too. Is that harmless? No. Are you a moron? Probably.

That's under labratory conditions, in the real world that 40% isn't happening either.

Recently had elective, bi lateral hernia out patient surgery. Must have had 30+ medical professionals in the pre op prep room. Everyone was wearing a mask. No division between libs or conservatives, just informed medical professionals. If you are wearing such a mask as the OP describes, that is on you. Masks are available everywhere now. The head RN told me to simply put my mask on the dash board of my car if parking outside & the heat & sun will take care of any germs. Common sense goes a lot further than hate or fear.

Even if it’s 1% increase, why wouldn’t you wear one?

Yeah, because they'd be fired if they didn't. My fiancee is a professor and clinic director for a dental school and wearing an N95 mask is in the building is mandatory except in her own office with the door closed and nobody present. Context, a word you need to look up.

I'm thinking 100% filtration rate through the mask. 0% for the air that gets directed into my eyes through the top of the mask.

I would think an improperly worn mask does slightly more harm than good

Also, I would imagine most people are awful about properly taking off their mask, and reuse often without proper cleaning

So, I don’t think it’s far fetched to say the use of masks may in fact be causing more Of an issue than any good it is doing
