Do you know if their infection rates are lower then the general public?

Lower, yes. But nowhere near as low as you would think they would be.

And, that is the first I have said on this board about masks in probably over a month.

Let's not act like a mask is a magical barrier protecting anyone who wears it.

It certainly decreases the risk of exposure.

Look....nothing is 100% foolproof. That’s why a combination of measures should be taken if you don’t want to catch this and spread it around.

People in my state bitching about the mask mandates. Even though shite is getting bad in the hospitals. Our COVID hospitalizations and deaths are going up. 20% of the tests done in my county are positive....meaning huge community spread. My hospital is having to make plans on how they can open more COVID units cause the several we have already open are getting close to full. More than half of the ICU beds in my state are COVID. Almost 90% of our ICU beds are full now. Some hospitals cramming two patients to a normal single room to make room for all the COVID patients.

shite is getting real here. What do these people bitching about the mask want us to do? We do nothing and it will get worse in my state. It is happening now so something drastic needs to be done. Would they rather have we shut the state down again? Cause I don’t want that.

I’m talking about the public in general, not necessarily you

Depending on who you ask, yes.

I for one....do NOT want that at all.

I feel like proper social distancing and wearing masks in public is fair.

I feel like if more people would have voluntarily done this...instead of making the whole issue political....we wouldn’t have needed to mandate it in my state.

I’m just frustrated. I’m so fricking tired of the politics over the whole thing. When it comes to this virus....the US is the fricking Veruca Salt of countries in regards to our attitudes and behaviors

Local hospital is laying off more staff. You "heroes" would have a better argument if things were so bad they were actually hiring insteadvof firing nurses left and right.

5% more effective than wearing no mask at all?

No, because that gives people a false sense of security and they become lax in other infection control measures. Is that clear enough for you?

Yeah we aren’t laying off anyone right now at my hospital.

We have nurses that haven’t worked at the bedside in years being cross trained to help out at the bedside. We have closed a few of our clinics so we can take those nurses and have them work at the bedside instead.

I don't doubt you. Though, I will say that over the weekend I had a conversation with a family member who is a nurse at a hospital near me. She told me how terrible it was at her hospital, how it was nearly full, how they had 48 patients in her area with Covid.

I didn't tell her that just that morning I had read an article with an interview with the head of nursing at the hospital. The lady gave a thorough breakdown of the situation at the hospital, including numbers hospitalized and in ICU. She also gave a rough estimate of recovery discharges. It sounded nothing at all like what my family member described to me.

The next day I read another article celebrating two more discharges at that hospital, and saying that they were in good shape right now as far as beds and all.
