well there's different kinds of swimming - sprinting a 50 and swimming a 500 aren't the same things.
it's also breast or sidestroke

If it's like other similar tests you do it after they've already PTd you pretty hard, then you go from one evolution to the next without much rest.

And there are all kinds of tricks. For instance Ranger Instructors have been known to watch you do pullups and say "that one doesn't count. That one doesn't count."In other words, if they don't want you to pass, you won't pass.

No knowledge of how the SEALS run things, however.

clock sticks on water treading, splashes in face, water is cold. you can't see timer.

One thing I noticed is the guys are constantly shivering with teeth chattering all through hell week. You are miserably wet and cold during it.
being wet and cold is from the start and never ends.

I’m trying to remember my best times but I know I swam 800 meters in 8:30 minutes and 1000 yards in almost 8min 50 seconds. This test would have been so easy when I was in high school or college, no way now… too many surgeries from swimming so damn much

I'd drown at step 1.

Swimming is probably the only one I could pass, and only because I swim on the reg, as it really helps my shoulders and neck; while getting a good total body w/o at my age…

No, you didn't. You were not 17 seconds over qualifying in meters and 17 seconds under for yards. These were the standards for qualifying for the selection meet for our 2022 international teams.

I'd also like to point out the 1000 isn't an event at conference championships nor ncaas. The type of thing a college swimmer would know. Last summer was the first time in 117 years the men swam the 800 at the Olympics. I'm certainly not saying they aren't events, just not real ones to toss out fake times over.

Yes I did and I did that in high school sonny. The 1000 yard freestyle is swam at every dual meet in college… And at club state championships, jr nationals, sr nationals. I started swimming the 1650 and 1500 free against 17+ Year olds when I was 12 at the state championship. Hell I would swim under 9:40 in the 1000 yard freestyle in practice…. Yes we talkin about practice. I said 1000 yards in almost 8:50 seconds, it would have have been about 950 yards or so.

No point in arguing with tough internet guy though, sometimes people are actually good at something.

It isn't. They can opt for the 1650, and occasionally do. I've counted a few in my day.

We're also talking about 50 seconds slower

Lines up infinitely better with your stated meter time. Not that 8:30 meters isn't respectable af, but 8:50 yards would've been 4th fastest time in the US last calendar year (really the world cause it's yards lol) and 100th place in the US meters is at 8:20.69. But we're good now, second comment definitely solidifies your story

You swim at LSU by chance? I f'n hate that pool LSU's head coach spent some time at my club team after I left for school, and the men's associate head coach spent a lot longer at that stop. Your girls coach was swimming at UF when I was in school. I've heard nothing but good things about the 3 of them. Time for y'all to build on Brooks' success, and leverage that into a pool upgrade.

Other than the swim I agree, just because many ppl aren’t well trained for swimming.

I said 9:40 because that was jr national qualifying times back then and I would do those in practice. Yeah I swam at LSU back in the day… we never did the mile at dual meets, too damn long. Maybe once I can remember I did the 1650, 500 free, and 400 IM in one dual meet. I never said I was the fastest swimmer ever, I was just putting those navy seal times in perspective to a trained elite swimmer.

8:50 for 1.5 miles? Not a chance... I've ran 2 to 5x a week for many years and that ain't never happening. 5min mile pace is no joke.

One of my son’s friends dreamed of going into the Navy and becoming a SEAL. He trained with a guy through high school and was crushing all of the standards. Enlisted, and right when he was getting to ready fly out to basic training or whatever, he had some medical issue and the SEAL thing was over before it started. Multiple kidney stones are something. I’m foggy on the details because it was over a decade ago and I can’t remember what I had for breakfast this morning, but I really felt bad for him. He’s still doing great in the Navy and has gone to some cool places, but if anyone deserved to live out their SEAL dream, he certainly put in the work.

In my Army days I would be somewhere in between minimum and optimum standards with the exception of the swim. I have always sucked at swimming and even 2-3 months to train I am not sure I would have hit the minimum. These days with training for 2-3 months I may hit the minimums in 2 or 3 of those.

My son is a SEAL for 18 yrs. Was an instructor for four years in Coranado. He says this is just the Indoc routine. The physical demands are far less preferred over the mental.

For the record....he cant shoot a pistol worth a damn.
