re: Anxiety Leaving the State of Louisiana

Louisiana sucks so bad and is a crappy state, but there is nothing more important on this earth than family. No job is worth me leaving from my family. My parents will pass on one day and I will never get that time back. I want my children to grow up around their cousins and grandparents. I make a comfortable living, but I could make more by moving off. My career and having extra money is not worth sacrificing time with family that will never come around again.

Closed minded way of thinking IMO. Family is greatly important, but live your life for you, not for other people.

That is living my life for me. I would much rather be here amongst family than move off to another state that I have no connection to just for a job. Closed minded or not I can promise you when I’m on my death bed I won’t be looking back fondly on my job. I’ll be wishing I had more time with my loved ones. That is something you never get back. I realize moving off to the popular places is the cool thing to do because everyone else is doing it too, but there is nothing wrong with just staying close to home to be close to the people you love.

The real anxiety is going to Ohio. I am guessing around Cleveland/Akron/Canton/Massillon. You can find things to do but the women and food are severely lacking. If you have a good job, in time you will not regret this move. I left 23 years ago and even though there are things I miss.... for my family, they are better for not living there

I left 20 years ago and never looked back.

Sometimes relationships are better with some distance. Even if it’s a family member you love.

Don't. Leave Louisiana and never return.
I moved to Texas and it's night and day.
I'll defend LA until I die, but they state is fricked.

You’re moving TO ohio? Never heard of anyone doing that before.

You’re gonna love it. Louisiana will always be my home. But.... not the greatest place to live. You’ll find that out. Down vote away. ????

Clevleand metro from Baton Rouge?
How do you like winter?
I knock on Louisiana sometimes, but Clevleand is even worse than Pittsburgh. Put the legwork in to find a good community, good group of new friends, etc. It will help make it tolerable.
The food is pretty bad there and the people aren’t very friendly either.
But the economy is probably a lot better than Louisiana right now. There are some very nice suburbs too. Easy non-stop flights to NYC and Chicago for weekend getaways.
I think the food and climate will be the biggest issues for you.

I’ll be in Mayfield Village area
Mayfield Village is a pretty nice area. There’s a really nice metro park there. I’d avoid renting or buying in Euclid or Richmond Heights. The east side of Cleveland gets quite a bit more snow than the west side. I have snow tires and I think they’re well worth the $500-$700. It’s not the best place in the country, but it’s also not as bad as the “We’re Not Detroit” video makes it seem...except in the winter.

I know a few you baws have left South LA for greener pastures. What was your transition like?
OP since college back in 1996 I have lived in Little Rock, Destin, Colorado Springs, Dallas and now across the bay from Mobile. It’s been interesting and I’ve enjoyed each city I’ve lived in. You can always move back home one day. Much like you I received a promotion with each and every move. One day I’ll move back to Louisiana but for now I’m happy with my decision because I like the company I work for.

Give it 2 years and you will never move back. It took 3 trips home before the roads and general ignorance became too obvious to ignore. You can’t unsee it once you realize the difference.

What are you eating in La that's not available in Ohio?

Made a similar decision when I moved to Portland, OR a year ago after living Florida for the entirety of my life. I have not regretted it for even a day since my move. I love the outdoors and hiking plus finallly having seasons is a plus as well. Good luck to you.

I would never leave, money isn’t everything.
Good luck to you

The wife and I left Louisiana 2 weeks ago... May be the best decision we’ve ever made
