At the end of WWI, Socialists took to the streets to start a leftist revolution. The government had collapsed, police were powerless. The leftists saw their chance and took it. But eventually, as always happens when the political pendulum swings too far, it swings equally far in the opposite direction. This swing back to the right saw the creation of the Freikorps, mostly comprised of veterans retuning from the front at the end of the war. Soon pitched battles in the streets of major German cities were being fought between leftist groups, among them the original Antifa, organized by German Communists, and right-wing Feikorps.

All this would eventually lead to the rise of an obscure political party initially known as “The German Workers Party” but better known as the “National Socialist German Workers Party”, or Nazi Party.

It’s not an election year. No one cares.
