With his form of employment, how did he not carry a life insurance policy in favor of his daughter?

Tony always wore cowboy boots and if you saw the way he shout a rifle (New Mexico episode) for being a NYC guy, it was impressive, to say the least.

Heard he still liked the smell of coke from time to time.
I know someone in rehab now, he was a working addict. Spent about $30k a year on blow. Crazy shite. No one even knew.
Hid it well. Pretended he liked to gamble.

Accountants and Estate attorneys often value estates super low for tax and inheritance tax reasons. But still, $1.2M sounds kinda low.

This explains why he was seen eating at the Popeyes buffet everyday while filming in Lafayette.

Life insurance policies, and their beneficiaries, are not subject to probate. It's a direct transfer of the asset.

However, the $1.2 million declared in the will may not be his only assets. Bourdain's will also established a trust. Unlike wills, trusts are not processed in probate court and do not become public record, allowing their contents to remain private.

Who would have thought that egomaniacal, alcoholic drug addicts aren’t worth much?

That's what I was thinking. He may have had a $10M cash account he left in Trust to his daughter.

Plus a $3M house.

Why? Poor money management is not exclusive to lower incomes, you don't have to look hard to find people that have made tens of millions of dollars over the course of their working life and are basically broke, I have one in my family.

Suicide is a pretty common exclusion to life insurance.
