It's all about how the individual owner takes care of the vehicle now. Toyota is behind on features compared to other full size trucks, so thet wouldn't get much of a look from me.
OP, I'd go with the 3 year newer truck.

I looked at the Tundra last year when I bought my truck and I think it needs updating. It's looked the same forever and was pretty plain on the inside imo.
I get a new one every 7-8 years anyway. I drive about 8-9k per year now so I'll probably never see 100k in my current one

They haven't updated the interior of the Tacoma in like 10 years. It's still a great truck but fell behind in that department. Not worth the price anymore. Especially now that there's actual competition in mid sized trucks.

Silverado, Toyota has no features and burns to much gas for what you get. Take care of your Silverado and you will get as many miles out of it as you want.

Most of the foreign manufacturers have US based plants. I pass a huge Mercedes plant every time I go visit the inlaws in Gump land

I would go with the Chevy but I would try to find one that is about a year old. They are tough to find but they are out there. Toyota is expensive to fix when you have to do something and it be three years in the hole out front only hurts you down the road, IMO.
I've had a couple F150s in a row now and really like them over the Chevy but Chevy is a really good truck too.

Problem is that the pickup just isn't as good a pickup and repairs are crazy. I had an inspector on a job a couple years ago who had a Tundra and didn't drive it one day. i asked him where it was and he told me it was in the shop for an alternator. Apparently you can't get to it and it was costing him over 1k for an alternator. An alternator on the Chevy? 100 to 200 bucks and 20 minutes with any auto skills at all.
