I got a little drunk and high on shrooms, then smoked a pile of weed with Rusty Russo one night at work. He, Bill Pettigrew, and I closed the bar around 3ish and Bill rode home. But, Russo and I were starving. Of course, nothing’s open at that hour.

Except Trolley Stop.

I don’t know why, but I ordered a hot sausage poboy. Before the sun was up, I began to empty my intestines for the next 48 hours.

That was 1997. I’ve never been back.

The Strand in Galveston is much smaller but essentially the same idea as The Quarter. I do not understand why they can’t close off the FQ during big weekends. The Strand does. Have to pay a small fee to get in or prove you live there or are staying in a hotel etc. then you get in. Otherwise you pay.

This is of course just for the FQ and doesn’t address the other issues in areas you guys are mentioning. But honestly. The Quarter is what attracts the lion share of your tourist dollars.

Canal looks like a scene from a Dystopian movie. It’s shocking. There used to be several hotels on Canal. Valet parking and bellman taking bags and cars. Who would feel safe there now. Standing there with all your things on the street, cash for tip in your hand, and your car open and running.

New Orleans is looking as attractive as Tiajuana. Never thought I’d see the city leaders let The FQ go. Even Mexico knows to keep the hotel zones safe-ish. These problems are too systemic now. I will be too old to care by the time they MAY get fixed. I will be “Alaskan cruise age” by then.

Paul died 7 years ago and his niece was running it. She had no desire to keep it open long term. It was the perfect was to bow out

I like the national park aspect of the smokey's, but most of Gatlinburg and Pigeon Forge is just tourist trap junk.

Spot in its Panama City beach of the mountains. We spend the majority of time hiking the national park when we go.
