COVID regs killed the St. Charles Tavern, Trolley Stop Cafe and Voodoo BBQ as they all closed during that time. I have noticed an increase in pizza places in that area, so I it may be a combo issue for Slice.
oh no, three shitty restaurants no one ever went to closed!
Well, considering that the Tavern was open since 1917 (103 years when it closed) and was a 24-hour joint, people obviously went there. They weren't 5* restaurants, but some of the places did have character and history. K-paul's Louisiana Kitchen, Paul Prudhomme's downtown restaurant, also closed due to Covid restrictions and that was one of the most famous New Orleans restaurants. It had been open since 1979. So it didn't just affect greasy spoon places. Also, as mentioned, Delmonico, one of Emeril LaGasse's famous restaurants located uptown also closed due to Covid.

You won’t have to. Chic F La is building a new restaurant on the corner of Tulane and Carrollton.

Tito's is opening in St Charles Tavern. Good for them, but it sucks to lose them at their current spot.
My understanding is that they’re not closing Magazine location. St Charles will be second location.

Seems like there will be nothing left but Popeyes, Raising Canes, Burger King, Mr John’s, Taco place, and Houston’s now.
The Popeyes on St Charles is the only establishment in which I've been called a "bitch."

Sushi Brothers is the only place I miss in that stretch. The buildings that had Blind Pelican, the changing Copelands concepts, and whatever is in the Eiffel buidling have always had stuff going in and out.
Yeah places have been lost on St. Charles as stuff has shifted on/near Magazine in the last few years. Blue Giant, Bower, Lengua Madre, Fat Boy Pantry, Gris Gris, Union Ramen, Turkey and the Wolf, etc.

Well...are you? I bet you still sat there and waited for that hot spicy to come out. Kidding.

KPaul's was run into the ground by bad management. It wasn't a healthy business. Delmonico was certainly a covid casualty but no one from NO actually went there. It was exclusively an out of town convention clienetele. Emeril's flagship meanwhile is back in business and doing fine. It sucks to lose places like K Paul's even if they had seen better days but it's not like the city's dining scene is hurting. The fabled covid restaurant die off we were promised never hit New Orleans. When people are talking about fricking Slice to prove their point, you know they are reaching. Pretty much all the restaurants on that drag were/are crap.

Resturants are always coming and going in that stretch. Irish House closed, the guy with the killer Pizza, the fondue place. Just one that will probably be replaced later.
Sucks, but restaurants are a tough business.

I thought Slice closed pre-pandemic lol
They always had homeless hanging out in front of Voodoo BBQ. They would walk over from the underpass.

No, many found a way to survive. But it clearly finished a number of places off (some good, some bad and some that did have character).
