Well said. I will always miss Louisiana but I don’t think I could live there. There are some neat places where I grew but so much of my parish looks run down. There’s so much promise to our state. I hope it one day lives up to it.

I was born and raised in Louisiana. Moved out in 2004 and will never go back.
My parents and brother are still there. When they are gone I will never cross that border again.

Grew up hunting and fishing in North Louisiana, never missed an opening day of deer season.

Now I'm stuck in the suburbs of DFW with all the HB-1 Indians.

Every year about this time I get homesick and think about moving back, Fall is a great time in Louisiana with hunting season/ football/ family get togethers.

But this time of year man I always miss the hell out of Louisiana.

What is it about this time of year? I will say that mid July to end of August absolutely sucks, except for the game falling on the end of the month.

Things are about to get good though. I plan on finishing my porch and being "Friday night/Saturday ready" soon.

LA in the fall and spring is such a great place to live. Summer can be brutal, so I can I see the sentiment.

I love it here, despite all the problems.

I only lived in Louisiana briefly and that was a long, long time ago. I'm not from there, nor can I trace family back to there. That said, I have been to Louisiana numerous times to fish, watch ball games, and see the sights.

Louisiana has a unique and distinct culture, several of them, actually. Its history is colorful for sure, but Louisiana does not own the patent for corruption. Other places are just as fubar. But in my view, the unique and positive things Louisiana brings to the South, and the nation as a whole, far outweigh the negative aspects that y'all share with all the other states.

Work on fixing the problems, but never stop enjoying and celebrating the unique culture.

hunting season

Yeah, there's no hunting or fishing in Texas, after all. How much less money would you have made over your career if you'd stayed in LA, so the cousins could get together every other weekend? The money isn't about keeping up with the Joneses, it's about saving for retirement, your kids' 529s, etc.

Every choice has a price, and blind loyalty to the state keeps MBAs working at Chilis so they can be around family. If that's your choice, great, but it comes at a cost.

You forgot about the crime, horrible education system, poor infrastructure, poor health services, high STD rates, high cancer rates, poor economy tied to the petroleum industry with no reinvestment back into the state, environmental pollution, eroding away our coastline, corrupt politicians…..good stuff

You know what? I made one of the best gumbos I ever made in Monterey California last fall. Even the rice came out perfect.

Then had a nice walk at sunset on a spotless beach. Its spotless because people clean it everyday. So no empty Bud Light 12 packs boxes, no empty plastic Fireball bottles. And the people we encountered didnt have meth teeth. And of course no threat of flesh eating bacteria because there is fecal matter in the water.

I married a Yankee from North Louisiana and my grandparents lived in Sarepta and spend most of my Summers with my cousins there, (and yes I know him very very well), so I don't mean to dis them but its more like part of Texas.

Moved back to Louisiana in 2022 from Chicago.

Love it. Don’t regret it even a little, which is saying something because we loved Chicago.

We are right where we are supposed to be.

We lived outta state a long time. We missed the unique qualities Louisiana has. Music, food, LSU, and bayous certainly were missed but I'd have to say the people were missed the most.
Moved back 5 years ago and while there are still great people it's easy to see so many outside influences. Not so sure I would move back if I had a do over.

It sounds like you’ve been mildly unhappy wherever you’ve been.

ETA: And look at the post right above this one. That guy is happy wherever he goes.
