CROSBY, Texas (FOX 26) — Harris County Sheriff Ed Gonzalez says two employees may be injured and a roadway is being closed in east Harris County following a reported chemical facility fire.

All Crosby Indpendent School District campuses are sheltering in place. No students will be relased to parents or by bus until it is safe to do so. Sheldon Independent School District also ordered all campuses and facilities to shelter in place following a chemical leak at the KMCO LLC facility in the Crosby area.

The Harris County Precinct 3 Constable's Office posted on Twitter that residents within the Crosby ISD are also to shelter in place.

Two Life Flight medical helicopters arrived to the site of the fire on Tuesday morning.

The Harris County Sheriff's Office is assisting with controlling the perimeter of the facility while the Harris County Fire Marshal's Office is taking the lead in the firefighting operation.

This is a little too close for comfort. I'm currently at the Enterprise refinery, just due SE of Crosby, in Mont Belvieu. This is the 3rd exlosion/fire, in this area, in 2 mos.

KMCO has a metric shite ton of tanks all tucked into a very compact area. This could be bad if they don't get it under control quick.

I was across Lake Houston from the explosion, heard it and felt the shock wave, rattled windows and shook the building I was in, walked outside and could hear the rushing gas like out of a pipeline rupture, black smoke plume traveling west across the lake...

Are you under the impression that a fire could not be the result of an explosion?

This is probably not earth shattering news but a lot of these explosions are due to negligence. Got a buddy in X-ray field. He commonly runs into pipes that are worn down and the plant would rather take the chance on blowing up then replace pipe and shut down for the day especially if there are millions of dollars on the line each day. They say it’s cheaper to pay off a family of a loved one and if an incident occurs rather than shutting down for a few days to make necessary repairs.
