I don't get that part either.
Unfortunately, too many people see this as "cop said don't do X, he did X, he deserved to die." People don't seem to have enough critical thinking skills to see how the situation could have gone any differently than it did.

This wasn’t about intelligence. This cop was out for blood. If you want my honest opinion, the cop knew the guy was inebriated, intentionally escalated the situation by yelling confusing commands in order to trip him up and justify murdering someone.

I am curious how this is the first time I've seen this video?
I believe the Michael Brown was justified. I believe the Alton Sterling was justified.
I also believe the guy in South Carolina was rightfully convicted earlier today.
But this one is much more heinous. It was calculated cold blooded murder. If a jury were allowed to watch that video, I do not understand how they could return a not guilty verdict.
I would like to know more of the story.

They didn’t release the entire video until after the verdict.

I never saw it before. It was just released after trial. I woke up saw this and I think I’m gonna make some coffee. Totally agree with your consensus on the previous shootings. That cop is an excitable punk coward.

There is a picture of the hero cop next to his trophy. He is wearing a camera on his glasses. Is that the body cam? Or is that his own personal camera?
The AR-15 he used had "You're fricked" inscribed on it.
quote:
The son of an internal affairs cop, who shot and killed Shaver with an AR-15 with the words, “You’re fricked,” inscribed on it, described it as a “terrifying” experience, watching Shaver crawling towards him, tugging his shorts.
At least the police department fired him. If you ask me, the cop had been waiting for something like this to happen his entire life. He trained for it.

That's convenient for the ex-cop
What was the background to all this? Why were the police called?

That’s why body camera footage should be released in the time it takes to download it. That’s BS about holding it because of an investigation. It’s clear evidence of what happens. Better yet have it live-streamed to a public accessible website.

someone called in saying they saw a rifle through the window

They had a pellet gun in the hotel room the victim used in his job in pest control. One of his buddies pointed it out the window of the hotel. Some guest called it in.
The police should have responded with weapons drawn as they would have had no idea it was just pellet gun. But the guy that did all of the shooting only escalated things.
I'm very curious to know what other members of law enforcement think.

Well that does change the mindset of the responding officers. But as mentioned before, this could have been easily resolved. The suspect was laying flat on the ground, one officer keeps his firearm pointed at the suspect while another approaches the suspect while keeping his firearm pointed at the hotel room door. The approaching officer then pins/cuffs the suspect after he sees the door is clear. Or they could have used a dozen other approaches
Regardless, it was clear that the male suspect didn't have a gun tucked in his gym shorts while he was laying on the ground. Everything the officer did seemed pretty intentional and he didn't seem too disturbed by the outcome. The civil trial should be pretty swift and harsh for the ex-officer. frick him for giving the good cops out there a bad name

I counted at least 4 cops in the hallway toward the end of the video.
The first time he put his hands behind his back, he was just putting his hands in the "arrest" position.
The guy was crying as he tried to crawl on his knees with his feet crossed. His shorts were falling off.
The second time, he stumbled. His hand didn't really go behind his back.
With at least 4 cops in the hallway, how can anyone justify putting 5 rounds into the guy from 5 to 6 feet away?
It's of little consequence but surely his family will win the civil suit.

The issue that jumped out at me was the "you make a mistake and we will shoot you" (paraphrased). The commands were confusing and contradictory and require a person to perform unusual physical acts with guns pointed at them and some "nut" screaming about killing them. The officer knew what he was asking was difficult and screaming to just fall on your face is stupid. You can pin a person's life on them not breaking their fall with their hands or not instinctively pulling up their shorts when they were walking down as they "crawled".
This POS wanted to kill somebody.
