A Norwegian Air Boeing 737MAX was forced to make an unscheduled landing in Iran on Friday due to a technical malfunction. Norwegian Air Flight 1933 was en route from Dubai in the United Arab Emirates to Oslo, Norway when it was forced to divert to Shiraz, Iran. "The aircraft landed normally and taxied to a gate allowing passengers to disembark," Anders Lindstrom, Norwegian Air's director of communications in the US, told Business Insider via email.

According to Norwegian, the brand-new Boeing 737MAX suffered an unspecified "technical issue." The aircraft involved in the incident, registration LN-BKE, was just delivered to the airline in at the end of October. However, flight tracking website FlightRadar24 pointed to a possible issue with the Boeing's CFM International LEAP 1B engines.

Land in Iran, or try to make it to Norway on a bad engine?

Tough call.

This is a new spin on that Ron White bit.

"If we lose one of the engines, how far will the other one take us?

"Right to the scene of the jihad."

There are tens of thousands of flights every single day....should not be a surprise that one has mechanical problems once in a great while.

Land in Iran or try to continue on. I’d go with the latter

In such an instance, would they be required to go through Iranian customs? Or is their an international understanding that passengers would only be held to the standards of their planned location?

From Google:
quote:

Question: If the engines quit at 30,000 feet, how far can a jetliner glide? Answer: It would vary depending upon the wind, but around 100 miles would be a good estimate

We're doing our best to glide past Iran

Shiraz looks pretty badass. LOL at the all the posters from Louisiana who think the mean Iranians are going to come get them the minute they step off the plane.

Re: the plane, I’ve been trying to get on a 737Max for a while.... I might have to rethink that

Yep. It’s not just shoddy airlines like Tiger but even the Norwegians are having issues.
