My FIL with dementia to my 11-year-old son and 6-year-old daughter:

“And the men, the men are playing football with the girls. On the girls team. And they still have muscles like men but they think they’re girls. It’s what the commercial said.”

This is officially fiction, but I’ll upvote for the effort.

Yeah, he's clearly trying to save the thread, but I stopped believing any of it two post ago. He really oversold it with his last post.

This makes me wonder if anything you’ve posted actually happened.

Not Thanksgiving, per se, but I did talk to my estranged son yesterday. He’s been married about a year. We have t spoken since he got married. He called trying to start back up a relationship. We talked for 10 minutes and I noticed he was really parsing his words. Deliberately vague.

I asked if someone was in the room and if I was on speakerphone. He stammered around and admitted his wife was in the room and listening. He told me he could only talk to me or his mom if his wife was there and listened.

I’ve never heard of a grown man being so submissive in my life. I’m shocked how he ever got to this point. After he told me this and argued it was just a trust issue, we ended our conversation still estranged.

So you raised a submissive son?

Obviously he turned into a submissive person. I’ve got 5 kids. He’s the only one that would put up with that shite.

Holy hell man it’s your son, not worth feeling right and missing out on your son’s life

He did the same thing to his mom several times before he got married. Putting her on speakerphone. The wife before they got married had to listen because she didn’t trust him talking to his mother.

That’s just shitty even if he is my son. He’s 35 and not how a grown man should treat his mom.

If you love your kids, sometimes cutting them off is required.

Just got home. Ready to just sit in silence for a few:

- Cousin, her boyfriend, and her three kids under the age of 8 all showed up an hour late and tried to make a scene because we started eating before they arrived.

- Grandmother told them to not bother coming to Christmas if they can’t respect being on time.

- Aunt showed up hacking her head off and was like “Yeah I’m sick but it’s already been 3 or 4 days so everyone should be fine”. Loading up on the Vitamin C and Zinc as we speak

- Uncle dropped that he is retiring in February and cousin with kids will have 2 months to find somewhere else to live about the time the dressing was passed around.

- Me and the fiancé left early because I could only take so much more of the kids screaming at sonic volumes and their mother just screaming back at them.

Remarkably, I just had the sub-$58.30 Thanksgiving dinner.

My cousin hosted for the third year in a row and her passive aggressive way of letting everyone know she was done with this chore was serving green beans from a can, mashed potatoes, deli ham and frozen biscuits. No turkey, no stuffing, no gravy, no sweet potatoes, no casseroles. No seconds, no leftovers - just one plate of that mediocre crap for everyone.

Wow. I'm pretty sure she spent less than an hour preparing and dropped about $40 on groceries, including a bottle of rotgut wine.

Supposed to eat a 4:30 On my third bourbon and sister and BIL are still fricking around. My turkey is getting colder by the second. Playing pool and drinking to bide the time. Girlfriend just suggested we go back to my place.

Nothing too crazy but my aunt had an old cheerleader friend from high school join us this year. Sweet black lady from Atlanta, her name is Monica. Massive Kamala supporter though, cried all day after Trump got elected apparently.

My dad says grace before we eat and my grandmother who is at that age where she just says anything she damn well wants and blurts out “and thank you Jesus trump won” with her hands up. Gets real quiet and awkward and she turns to black cheerleader friend and says “Monica I’m sorry but I mean it”
