Been a little busy this year and pioneer asked me to update on my family from the 2020(I think) thread.
This is more of a somber tone.
My great uncle (the wealthy retired man) unfortunately had a stroke a few years back and is in assisted living. Since his stroke, we have not had a big family Thanksgiving at his place. His 2nd wife (the alcoholic) is living there and does not enjoy family like he always did. We have been to visit him twice and she always acts annoyed at our presence.
My cousin (the guy who was dating the stripper) ended up getting her pregnant and they broke up. She left the area and last I heard she was living in Florida with a new guy.
His daughter (the one with obvious daddy issues) is always posting photos of herself on big vacations and wearing expensive things. You can probably fill in the way she has access to those things.
My dad and I still get together and share stories about the chaos of the “big family thanksgivings” that I went to over the last 30 years. Maybe I will share an occasional nugget in the future.
Strangely, as chaotic and redneck as many of my extended family are… I still miss seeing all of them. They have great hearts and mean well but they have no direction. My branch of the family tree was directed upward by my sweet grandmother. She barely graduated high school and married a great blue collar working man who loved the Lord. They made sure that their family was in church and acted respectfully towards others. Her family rejected her for several years b/c they assumed she was acting “above her raising” but they reconciled eventually.
My parents raised us in a solid manner and I am always reminded of the impact of hard work and good parenting on your descendants.
I wish I knew that about 4 years ago.. it would be the last Thanksgiving with all of them. But, at least it was (according to my elderly father) the best Thanksgiving ever.
Happy Thanksgiving to all of you.

Yeah one of the hellions is almost four and looks like a girl because he’s never had a haircut. I don’t know if it’s because he flipped out on the barber or just because they’re all nuts…

Only 3 of us so not much drama. Except my wife "burned" the pecan pie. She was supposed to put it in the oven for 15 mins @ 425 then lower it to 350 for an hour. Except she missed the 2nd step.
The top was a little well done, but underneith it was fine. I pulled off the top and we stuck it back in the oven to solidify. I'm blissfully eatig the burnt part that we took off, "It tastes like nutty caramel!" To the reply, "Yeah, BURNT nutty caramel!" I told her my fat butt didn't need pie anyway. I love my wife.
Just cut the pie. It turned out great. I think the kid added extra sugar. Lol.

Sorry to disappoint the greatest annual thread, but all we did was eat, drink and play cards,....the BIL did knock over a house plant but his lovely wife replanted and cleaned the mess...she gets 20 extra points in the family canasta game.

Why would you not help?
I did end up volunteering. Then came to find out my mom was not on board. He wanted to rip the like 10 piece sectional a part and have the 2 recliner sections all by themselves separated
in the middle of the living room. Lol, what?
He was also wanting to move this huge arse old solid oak entertainment center and roll top desk as well. Like wtf is going on here. Pretty sure very little thought was put behind this idea.
I was like whenever you two stop arguing about this lmk, I'll come back and help.

Haven't eaten yet. Flame from burner was yellow instead of blue. Still got oil up to temp, but when I went inside to get the Turkey, the hose where it attaches to the burner melted and had flames shooting out the side. Had to have someone go grab a second burner. 30 min delay.
Then. Once turkey is cooked, realized there's no rice or mashed taters. So here it is. Almost 730 and we haven't eaten yet.

Oh yes. I've heard it 17 times now.

The well done top on a pecan pie is just delicious

My cousin hosted for the third year in a row and her passive aggressive way of letting everyone know she was done with this chore was serving green beans from a can, mashed potatoes, deli ham and frozen biscuits. No turkey, no stuffing, no gravy, no sweet potatoes, no casseroles. No seconds, no leftovers - just one plate of that mediocre crap for everyone.
Does she not ask others to chip in with meal prep?
We always do pot luck style where we divide it all up evenly.

so I panicked and fished the turd out of the bowl with my hand, put it in the bathroom trash can bag, tied it up, and hid it under my shirt.

Nothing big yet here. At a decently nice dinner last night, the 9 year old ripped a very loud fart right after telling the waiter he wanted the kids chicken. He saw no issue with it, older cousins and brothers find it very amusing. At least my parents can't really hear anything anymore.
He did that in a restaurant and everyone is just fine with that? That’s not acceptable behavior.

Idc if it’s at home. Our son would have been excused from the table for the night at bare minimum.
