Ah yes, the "thank-less" job we are constantly reminded to thank people for.

16 days off!!!! Now, let the idiots come out of the woodwork...or cyberspace...and complain about teachers! Lol

I don't care. Teachers have the worst job! What a horrible feeling for them on that 16th day.

It's not too bad bc we get off mlk day right after, a week for Mardi gras, a week and a day for Easter, and then it's just about summertime.

This. I am off the entire week of Christmas and work till Tues the following week(and that's not even using my 6.5 weeks of vacation time)Oh, and I get paid way more than $45k a year.
Sorry teachers, but no one is jealous of your shitty job.

Really you should go set foot in a classroom and try to teach today's youth shite they could care less about.

Well it's a good thing they at least care to some degree.

Wow, some interesting comments about teachers.

My wife has been involved in elementary education her entire career. In the classroom, as a math specialists and is now a librarian.

I love the generalized comments in this thread.

wife teaches in LP

they are getting 3 weeks off for christmas again this year

she, like others I assume, wishes it was 2 weeks and theyd just make summer longer

3 weeks is too long

in regards to pay, lets say a certain parish teacher makes 45K over 182 working days

the normal weekly worker works 52*5 = 260 days - vacation and holidays so lets say 240 days

teachers salary of 45K equates to about 60K per year

my wife doesnt complain about work or pay, she's pretty content with both

And you teachers have the nerve to bitch about not being paid enough.

They also think they should be regarded as "heroes".

Guess what frickers? Heroes don't bitch about being underpaid..... Especially when they are ridiculously overpaid.

Honestly I don't really ever see teachers complaining about pay anymore

Maybe they did 15 years ago before their last big raise but I never hear it today

The biggest drawback to their pay is that their is very little advancement. Every year you make a couple hundred more than the year before and there's nothing you can do about it if you stay a teacher.

What are Teachers going to do without 2 weeks contact with students so they can molest/teach them true sex education?

It's not very hard to understand. I mean, you get paid 45k for 9 months of work. That's not that bad a gig, brah. Especially considering all of you try to get in administration right before you retire to get your higher salaries averaged for your retirement at 55.

THis. OMG This. My wife is a teacher and you wouldn't believe the other idiots.

It's almost like police officers. They're in a position of authority over kids and just make shite up when they get asked a question they don't know and get PISSED when they're questioned on it.

We actually need a better system. Teachers should be paid more, but the profession should be MUCH more competitive and school should be structured much differently.

I agree with this. The barrier to entry is too easy for teaching. Teaching should be highly competitive and there should be more emphasis on material than easy teaching classes. Some of my wife's teaching classes were so fricking easy, it's ridiculous. It's one reason she changed her major and still became a teacher.

I am ready for the break

Anyone who thinks that this job is easy, here is an open invitation to take over my classroom for a week. I doubt you will last that long without quitting or going to jail.
