you two sound absolutely miserable.. can't stand people like y'all
Posted on 12/18/19 at 6:54 pm to Mr Perfect
what, specifically do you find at issue?
Posted on 12/18/19 at 7:04 pm to SlowFlowPro
I keep a running list in my phone the entire year of things she says she likes or wants. Usually around 30 things by years end. Then I pick 3 or 4 of the best.
I’m an awesome gift giver.

Your schtick would be better if you made every single post about the Bills, and never responded to anyone. You blew it.

I’m glad my family doesn’t do gifts
It’s an all around waste for adults

Coming from you, I take that as a compliment. You’re the fricking worst.

My wife and I are only getting gifts for each other this year.
Gotta go with Perfect on this one. What kind of selfish, self centered secular pricks don’t give gifts? It’s not about you. Or the gift you give. It’s about the idea of giving to others to let them know you appreciate them.

a. if you force this with some associated date/societal norm, then you completely lose this argument
b. if you read OP, then you would see that cash is the most economically efficient gift, but if that isn't acceptable, you ask somebody what they want. being a good guesser doesn't make you more appreciative of the putative recipient

I usually make people gifts.

Great. If you run into buttocksnclarse, he will have a book and possibly a handmade ornament bookmarked for you.

Oh lord, yet another tradition tossed out in the trash can cause it's "just too hard to get it right Gman". Jeezuz X, the pansies are will cry about fricking ANYTHING. .

This is pretty spot on.
My side of the family just straight up tells each other what to buy. "I need a new chef's knife" and I go and buy them a chef's knife. No surprises. And my Dad just gives me a check for $1k every year.
My SO and I do not exchange gifts for any occasions. But we buy each other random stuff all the time and sometimes one of us will get something for Christmas or birthday if it is coincidental we were going to get the item anyway.

Mom's dysfunctional hair dresser sister probably cut it.
ETA: Pretty sure oldest girl is mixed. Dad looks like he's 1 step away from Ginger.

My mom is famous for buying a cheaper knock-off version of what you want
When my best friend was getting married, she registered a Staub dutch oven. My mom tried to convince me to get her a Pioneer Woman one (with a freakin butterfly on it) from WalMart. She could not understand how that was insulting.
And dutch ovens weigh a ton. Like my friend would want to deal with a Baton Rouge Walmart customer service desk trying to return it.
We have some people in our lives who we appreciate their willingness to give, but it gets to a point where it is super wasteful. Like... entire sets of new kitchen pots in some random material I'd never buy. That is a pain to have to get rid of.
