I feel like God made that rule not expecting coonasses to figure out the ultimate loophole and turn it into a lifestyle.

Legit had a good chuckle at this.

Our priest went over the guidelines this morning at mass. Fasting means 1 meal, and you can have 2 smaller snacks that together don't equal a full meal.

Where exactly did this priest come up with this definition of fasting? Is this an official Catholic position, or did he simply arbitrarily come up with this like the 6ft. covid rule?

None of this is sacrifice. If anything, its an embarrassment to the religion people do this.

To me its not nearly as embarrassing as having a gospel where the scripture literally says "don't rub dirt on your face to show that you are fasting" five minutes before everyone gets in line to have ashes rubbed on their forehead.

This has always been the rule; however, most people (myself included) tend to ignore that part and just stick with the don't eat meat part.

Serious question: Why is fish/seafood exempt? Never made sense to me.

It's a tradition that goes back to the beginning of the church:

"The Latin word for meat, caro, refers to flesh meat, not fish.
In the past, meat was more expensive and associated with feasting, so giving it up was a greater form of asceticism."

It used to be no meat every Friday but at some point that changed to just Lent.

Just eat whatever and pay money to reconcile like they made up 100's of years ago.

By the way "fasting" and then immediately judging everyone who doesn't is just as bad as not fasting

I had boiled crawfish last night for Ash Wednesday

I thank God for giving me the strength to follow through with the sacrifices because I was feeling a burger

But I persevered and no one can take that from me

Lagneauxs seafood buffet

First place I thought of, haven’t been there in forever but they’ve been having that buffet for like 30 years now.

They fricking rescheduled the Mardi Gras parades for this coming weekend, so now there are parades during lent.

No shame.
