Annoying that companies still make you call them to cancel services of instead of online

I had similar experiences with NY Times and AT&T. I wanted to cancel my NY Times subscription. You can subscribe online, but can only cancel via phone. Of course this is a way to talk to a person who will try to convince you not to cancel and keep bringing the price down, despite multiple times saying I want to cancel.
Same thing with AT&T. We had a third phone line we wanted to cancel and instead of giving us the option to do it online, we had to call and talk to someone who tried to sell us on a million different things.
Anyone else have issues with this stuff?

It's because they don't want it to be easy to cancel. I would bet a ton of people want to cancel but don't because they're socially retarded and can't talk in the phone.

Right? People still use the largest telecommunications company in the US?

despite no longer caring about recruiting I've been paying for a geaux247 sub for several years now because of this

I'm annoyed by the fact that Entergy makes me use a third party payment processor to pay them, and the baton rouge water company's payment system is still stuck in 1994.

They still charged me on an expired credit card after I told the CC company to deny the charge. It's absurd.

Yes. Not all of us need to use Metro PCS like you do.

Great thread. Start another one just like it.

I just had to go through this with AT&T.
Oddly enough on the app and on the website there is a tab to cancel your service but miraculously it never responds.

The BR Water Company's email invoices look like some scam shite. I've never trusted it and refuse to put my information into their shady arse PDF.

Ugh, yes.
I don't pay the water bill anymore, but when I did, I remember having to punch in my account # like 5 times before it would accept it. Of course this is all over the phone because you couldn't pay online.
Entergy is a pain too. $3 added to every bill if you pay by card because of the third party. Absurd.

Not sure how it works today (I have BR Water draft my account) but in the old days of paying via the mail and a paper check, a buddy of mine told me that he would pay a penny more than the bill.
BR Water had a computer system that would scan the bill and match the amount of the bill to the check (completely automated). If the check didn't match, it would kick it out and they had to manually enter the payment (thus slowing down the process and costing them money). Month one, he would pay $0.01 over the amount due. Month two he had a credit and would do it again. After a few months of credits (pennies), he would pay a penny less. His payment would never match so there would always be manual intervention.
You could probably do it today if you are paying online - it will screw them up.
