Louisiana just has more stupid people. The smartest kids at the schools in Louisiana are just as smart as the smartest kids in any other state.
This is true, especially when added to a few other factors that are beyond the control of schools. I would add that LDOE test scores are very easily manipulated by what actually appears on the tests, meaning difficulty of questions.

When you lose teachers like Walter White to early retirement, you can expect to take a hit.

Remove New Orleans, Shreveport, Monroe, Alexandria, Lake Charles, Baton Rouge, the delta parishes, any school south of I-20 and North of I-10 and Louisiana rockets up the list.

the places where the majority of the failing schools are? probably yes
eta: remember we're talking about public schools here, these areas have some really good private schools

Yet you will find at least one 4 year college within 40 miles of almost any location in the state.

can you 'educate' us [the unwashed], as to the make-up of public school funding ? Is it not true that the majority of school board $ come from property taxes ? If so, how is it that with all the white flight over the past 30+ years, wouldn't there be far LESS students and the SAME or more amount of 'funding' ? If all this is correct, how does one explain the abhorrent state of public education ??

This should be celebrated, I'm actually surprised it was not deemed the worst...this coming from the product of Louisiana public schools.

How did America's best public schools stack up against the world's best public schools?
No state left-behind BS is irrelevant.
How far has the world passed up red, white & blue?

I mean besides west va. It’s states with more blacks and Latinos.
One group refuses to be educated and the other doesn’t have English speaker in the home.
we made 5 million people citizens recently that can’t read or speak English.
And before anyone says anything, the top rated states generally are more homogeneous, less diverse. Even a state like New Jersey is over 70% white. These top states don’t even represent the diversity of America.
