Not vaccinating is like gathering up your family and jumping off of a ship in the middle of the ocean to avoid any potential crashes.

Only it's worse because you're putting other people's children at risk too.

These people are loons.

Both.

Some all-natural hippy people, some far right people. I know someone who lives in California and is Traditional Catholic (extremely conservative); she refuses to vaccinate because of the use of aborted fetal cells in the development of some vaccines.

Only the weak need vaccinations. This just kills off the weaklings.

I think the South generally has the higher rates of vaccination in the country. It is one thing this region actually does well.

Personal belief exemptions shouldn't be allowed.

Apparently colleges allow this a lot these days. It was mandatory 15 years ago.

It’s a combo of idiot parents here not getting their kids vaccinated and those kids then being exposed to illegal kids at school who come from whatever Central American shite hole that has iffy at best vaccinations themselves.

Having worked as a records clerk at one point that dealt with translated immunization certificates from a host of places, those kids still have to have the appropriate shots to attend school in the US unless they claim religious or medical exemption (and in some states, they don’t even do exemptions anymore). Even with a translated certificate, those students typically either had expired shots or didn’t have the ones appropriate for attendance in US schools so they were getting those in order to attend.

I had more problems with parents who had a WebMD degree in vaccinations that allegedly caused autism and getting them compliant than anyone FWIW.

I wasn't allowed to live in a dorm unless I had the meningitis vaccine.

Parents who don't get their kids vaccinated should be charged with child abuse.

Each parent of each of these infected kids should be charged with Oregon’s Reckless Endangering Another Person law. Each parent should also be charged with the same for ALL of the other kids that are infected.

Oregon Revised Statutes and ORS 163.195 details the crime of “Recklessly Endangering Another Person” as follows:

A person commits the crime of recklessly endangering another person if the person recklessly engages in conduct which creates a substantial risk of serious physical injury to another person. Recklessly endangering another person is a Class A misdemeanor.
Oregon criminal law has various levels of mental states, including but not limited to: intentionally, knowingly, and recklessly.

Oregon defines “reckless” conduct in ORS 161.085(9) as follows:

“Recklessly, when used with respect to a result or to a circumstance described by a statute defining an offense, means that a person is aware of and consciously disregards a substantial and unjustifiable risk that the result will occur or that the circumstance exists. The risk must be of such nature and degree that disregard thereof constitutes a gross deviation from the standard of care that a reasonable person would observe in the situation.”

Reckless Endangering Another Person is a Class A misdemeanor in Oregon meaning that:
The maximum period of incarceration is one year in jail, the maximum period of supervision or probation that can be imposed is 5 years, and the maximum fine that can be imposed is $6,250.00.

Seems pretty cut and dry to me.

The two anti-vaxxers I personally know are in Missouri and Alabama. Both far right conservatives and disciples of Q and all that.

I bet that MMR series of shots seems like it was a good idea afterall. Maybe the doctor really does know what he/she is talking about.

Slow down there Stalin. Just because some people want to do stupid things to themselves, doesn't mean the gov't gets to hold them down against their will and poke them with a needle full of chemicals.
