You don't think railroaders can be fired? NS is infamous for firing people over petty shite.

The combined company will aim to be the safest railroad in North America, ensuring every team member goes home safe to their families
Is this not happening enough that it needs to be included in the press release?!?!

If that’s the case, the union has a field day

In this case, they mean one company owning connected track from coast to coast.
Canadian Pacific already connects Canada, USA, and Mexico on their own track.

I'll have to let my coworkers know about this new development. They'll be surprised to learn that we can't be fired & we have total control over this $85 billion corporation.

So glad I never went back to working for the railroad. That's a job that gets worse and worse every year.

Don't bother with this on here. This place thinks union workers are lower than scum. When I worked for BNSF you constantly had to worry about if your next move was gonna get you canned.
Heck its the only job ive ever seen where you need to buy "job insurance" for when you inevitably get fired by some shitbag train master

That's what makes these posts so hilarious. We work for these gigantic mega corporations owned by the richest hedge funds in the world, but, according to the OT, those hedge fund managers are at the union hall on their knees just begging for permission to do anything.
I don't know where people come up with this dumb shite.

Do you think the deal will actually happen
I think there will be a lot of scrutiny about it. If the merger goes through the only other long haul railroad to compete would be BNSF I believe, and they don't have the coast to coast track that this new conglomerate would have.

I have a bad feeling about this .

If any of you haven’t watched Hell on Wheels, great show. I watched it recently, it’s not one to miss.

Atleast in chemical plants (all around Baton Rouge), union workers are retiring and not getting rehired by the company for a reason. They are instead getting replaced with contractors. I’ve seen brain dead, worthless union operators get fired for good cause, go to court, and get reinstated with back pay. It’s ridiculous.
Union maintenance hands sit on their arse knowing their job is protected while contractors bust their arse and do way more difficult jobs.
Maybe it isn’t true for rail road industry but I didn’t just make up what I said

This is going to be a freight line, if it ever happens. If it were a passenger rail, that would be the headline. Prepare your grandkids for 10 mile long trains.
