For reference Chick Fila sales were up 15% in 2023 from 2022. Current year is better than 2023 to date.

Is McDonalds really hurting. Oh no there sales were down 0.7%. Down from what? What they made last year or what they projected? One thing I hate about capitalism, we must grow every year. How bout, is McDonald’s still turning a profit? Oh they are, sounds great.

Chilis has got way better
Food than any fast food place not named chick fil a. But every once in a while I’ll crave a McDonald’s sausage biscuit with egg and a couple has browns.

When we are around a McDonald’s we’ll stop and get a dozen regular hamburgers and bring them home and put cheese, tomato and whatever else we want on them then freeze what we don’t eat.

Less than 30 bucks and we like them. It’s cheaper than buying hamburger, buns, charcoal and such, or pretty much balances out.

Where do you live that it makes sense freeze McD's?

We don’t have a McDonald’s close to here so we get plenty when we go there.

This might be the craziest thing I’ve ever read on this board, and that’s saying a lot. Wtf.
Congrats, you might be the only couple in the entire world that does this. It’s so insane that I honestly believe you are a unicorn.

I'm a Wendys shareholder and am nervous going into Thursday mornings 2q call. Been taking a beating all year long, down 10% - afraid it's going to sink lower ESPECIALLY if the rumors of a dividend cut come to fruition.

Last time I went to McDonald's (Highland @ Airline), a girl ran up from the kitchen and started fighting the cashier, throwing food and whatnot. I got my kids Chick-Fil-A instead.

Repeat business is down because people get sticker shock at the cost of a meal.

They went from the dollar menu to the 1-2-3 dollar menu to the $5 meal deal to the “Five Guys is cheaper than this” menu.

Given the state of the economy right now, most people won’t pay $12-18 for a fricking Big Mac deal.

Don't eat at McDonalds often but I used to buy a $1.09 32 oz diet Coke, often several times a day. In the last 14 months, in our area, that $1.09 has gone from that to $2.14. That has nothing at all to do with the price of McDonald's selling fountain drinks, its all about McDonalds upping the price of fountain drinks to offset the inflation in other menu items. Circle K has 48 oz fountain drinks for $.79, the same price they have been for at least 18 years in our area. I get my fix at Circle K now. The only down side is the bastards keep the Reese's right at the cash register. I have read that soft drinks are marked up about 1000% at restaurants. I am assuming that is around $3 so. I doubt its that much with a cup, ice and labor, but it is very high.....If Circle K can afford to sell 48oz of Diet Coke for $.79 McDonalds is killing it at $2.14. I understand Circle K is doing it to get people in the store but I seriously doubt they are losing money doing it.

It’s the same price now to go to a sit down and get a burger than it is there. Same with Taco Bell. You can go to Mexican and get out cheaper sometimes.

Yup. McDonald's just didn't increase price, they essentially rebranded themselves from the cheap place to eat to a regular restaurant. When you now compare it to Chic-fil-A, Chipotle, Moes, sandwich shops.....it's going to lose every time. When I was a young man, fresh with a driver's license, a McDonald's trip started with me digging in the couch cushions to scrounge up money for two double cheeseburgers. And it worked. Millennials can't get that image out of their head.

I ordered 3 tacos and a soft drink at a local sit down Mexican restaurant last Friday for lunch. It took about 10 minutes from the time I walked in the door to my lunch being delivered. The bill was a little less than $8 and I paid $10 with a tip. Same lunch at Taco Bell would take about 10-15 minutes and cost about $9. For $10 I had two diet cokes, one for the road, and chips and salsa. It was WAY better, about as quick and comparable in price (I tipped about 25%). The only upside to fast food ever was it being fast and cheap. It is neither now. It hasn't been fast in years, it is not cheap now. For the most part it has never been anything but edible as far as quality goes. It may be the higher prices now but quality seems waaaaaaaaaayyyyyy down. How hard can it be to buy red tomato's and bread that ain't crusty?

Exactly. Quick casual competition has probably hurt them. I still think it's good once in a while for breakfast, but have no desire to go there otherwise.

We can't get it out of our head because the cheeseburgers are every bit as small and unsatisfying as they were 25 years ago. What we at during our lunch breaks from stocking the shelves at Winn Dixie when we were 16 is not a wise choice when we are close to 40 when we can't lose weight as quickly. It might be okay for a quick option occasionally....but not if it's the same price as a meal from a real restaurant.

To make things worse - the McDonald's architecture and design has changed to be less inviting, and they are somehow less clean than ever before. There's a small army working in those places (15-18 at a time in some of the busier locations), but nobody has time for a mop or to pick the garbage out of the parking lot.

McDonald's buildings usually feature well lit parking areas and very nice landscaping. They should put that much effort into their food quality and cleanliness. And they need to either vastly improve quality or cut prices.
