That was super nice of you!

There was a guy on my Nextdoor app recently offering to grocery shop for the elderly or people that needed help. Nice to know there are still nice people.

Difference is seems like most of you care about the 2-3% that get the virus and die,

nCFR rates are 6-8% in places with collapsed medical systems. You willing to let 6-8% of the people with this virus die?

Won’t be temporary. Either you just delay the spike in the curve or shut things down for months. A vaccine will take months to get out.

If people stay away from others as much as possible it will drastically impact the amount of people who get it.

The numbers we see right now are all cases in which people who had it before the testing started and people who got it from people who were unaware they had it. Look how it has spread. Now that people can be tested for it and be informed that they have it, they know to stay away from others.

And if people stay in, don't get close to others, sanitize, etc then it will not spread as easy. And right now, the numbers we are seeing with the coronavirus is just the beginning. By next week we should see numbers that better reflect pre-quarantine then the following week, if we are lucky we will possibly see numbers that show less people testing positive.

It will take about a month to get this under control. Sometimes you just have to be patience, let this take its course and then get back to work and get things back on track.

First of all, we are already seeing hospitals being filled to capacity. So you want business to go on as usual so that even more people can get sick which would mean there would be people not getting treated. If that happens then there will be more people dying... Who are not just the old and people with underlying health issues.

Here is a local argument for not closing crap down.

Lake Charles has 200,000 people and I’ve been told there are a ton of people that have carona but haven’t got tested. We’re at risk for hospital resources being used. There are like 30-40 ventilators in the city between all the hospitals. Say there are 350-400 rooms total across all 4 area hospitals.

If there is a 5% infection rate currently in LC, that means 10,000 infected. I know for a fact the following: 1 dead, 6 pending cases in ICUs.

Of the 10,000 cases in LC, 7 are ICU or dead. The hospitalization rate is .0007 for infected.

Think about that. We closed everything down for .0007% population rate.

People can get mad all they want but this is absolute overblown absurdity at its finest. This isn’t hemorrhagic fever.

Does he get to go to Walmart any time he feels like it in this scenario?

You are making a tremendous assumption

It’s obvious kids aren’t going back this school year, but I’m starting to wonder what will the covid19 cases have to look like for them to open in August?

This way of thinking is ridiculous

Absolutely ridiculous that we cannot have a quarantine for at risk individuals. It should not be my responsibility to make sure YOU do not get sick. Things should be running as normal, and if you are old or have conditions that put You at risk for getting severe complications of the virus, you should take responsibility to protect yourself. I 100% believe that businesses would allow those individuals to make accommodations to prevent themselves from getting sick.

If 75 year old granny decides to say frick it and go to Walmart (as I have seen over the past week) then why should I care if something happens to her when she ignores all of the precautions?

Open things up, quarantine at risk individuals, let Darwin's theory of natural selection take place for those that ignore

You sound assholy.

It’s not an assumption at all. That’s hard data my friend. The assumption is 5% infected. Bring it down to 1.5% and the numbers are still small when looking at hospitalization rate.

Who said "no reason"?

The reason is their healthcare systems are overrun.

Yeah. Great. You ignored half the post. The hospitalization and dead numbers are the data.

What exactly do you think the current rate of infection is?

Point is it’s not very significant.
