If you come back from Congo and all you have is Ebola then it was a pretty successful trip

Lol that’s one way to spin it. Or people that go into healthcare want to help people with their health.

I know several MD’s and RN’s who do this type of stuff.
They’re all very liberal. A pretty fair number of them are involved in a church.
Some came from wealthy families, and do it out of guilt. Some do it to virtue signal and score points telling stories at the Charleston Yacht Club while chatting it up with the Commodore. A few genuinely feel like they’re making a difference.
Ultimately, at the end of the day when they leave nothing has changed in the Congo, Guatemala, or Haiti, and never will.

During the last one, there was a nurse infected with it and flew from Africa to DFW. She didn't find out until she returned to work a day or two later.
No outbreak.

Has the doctor been named yet? I worked with a Nigerian doctor. Guilt is HEAVY on those guys. They are hear with families living life. They want to help their native country AND they are eaten up with guilt. This guy spent months trying to get a used CT scanner over there. It got delivered, someone looked the other way and it was stolen from the clinic.

Nothing has changed policy/system wise, but every (except ones with complications) cleft patient or every patient with a disfiguring tumor is much better afterwards than they were before. Like anything, there are some people that abuse a system or don’t do things for what most would consider the right reasons, but for the most part, many people doing missionary work are just trying to help the less fortunate.
Sure, an argument can be made for doing this work in the US instead of abroad, but to say all people are only virtue signaling is just being cynical.

I'm in healthcare...for over 33 years...he could have gone alone to satisfy his charity urges.
I certainly wouldn't have put my wife and kids at risk for it.
When you heading over there Doc?

As long as you get to practice your faith at the expense of others, dont let anyone stop you from getting YOURS!!! That holiness is YOURS. What business is it of ours if it negatively effects other people? Or if the outcomes overall are a net negative?
YOUR FAITH is more important. How dare anyone question how your faith makes you behave.
