Amazon Will Deliver Packages Straight Into Your Living Room

quote:

Amazon.com Inc. is going to start delivering packages not just to doorsteps, but inside homes as well.

The new service, called Amazon Key, incorporates a smart lock fitted to a customer’s door, as well as a new Amazon security camera to record the movements of the delivery person, the company said Wednesday. Amazon will also sell its Cloud Cam as a standalone piece of hardware, moving the e-commerce giant into the home security market and setting it up to compete with traditional players including Netgear Inc. as well as newer entrants like Alphabet Inc. ’s Nest Labs.

Doors will only be opened for delivery if the relevant driver is verified by Amazon’s system, and the driver is never given keys or codes to unlock doors manually. The service is a perk available exclusively to Amazon’s premium Prime subscription users, and starts at $250. The In-Home Kit includes an Amazon Cloud Cam and one of several smart locks made by Yale and Kwikset.

Who in the hell would trust this and sign up for this crazy shite? Once a large database is established, I can easily see this being a target for hackers to sale access to criminals to gain entry into people's homes.

Amazon may become a monopoly soon, I was just reading something about how they plan on having floating warehouses with thousands of drones to deliver packages.

I think we talked about this a week or two ago. They also are offering a service where they will put packages in your car for you.

Wal-Mart is piloting a grocery delivery service where they will come in and put the groceries in your fridge/freezer/pantry.

No thank you.

Tell an old timer this and you’ll be promptly reminded this is how it was done back in the good ole days.

I read about this earlier today. I thought that was insane to allow that to happen. Not a chance in hell i'd sign up for that.

CAD will be in here shortly to tell us about how this is stupid, because he just went to Lowes and made a copy of a key that he mails to a courier who delivers his Ebay packages and in so doing, even when you factor in the cost of the key, he saved roughly $1.46 by purchasing the same item from a guy in Topeka and got it within 11 days.

I did a grocery delivery service for the first time this past weekend. They texted back and forth to make sure you got what you wanted or suitable replacements for items out of stock and then brought the groceries in and unloaded them as my wife stocked them. It was really nice, but there is no way I would let the person in my home when I'm not there.

Honestly we all balk at this now, but I bet in 10-15 years it will be normal for deliveries to occur in your home.

You may even design new houses around the fact that you may have 3rd parties accessing certain areas. I think it would be fairly nice to give access to just a garage (we already have keypads outside of garage doors) or butlers pantry for UPS/FedEX/Amazon Drone to drop off my packages.

What idiot criminal that breaks into houses would have the money to pay for this access?

I get that, but no way in hell the UPS man can just roll into my back door.
