Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos announced a broad plan on Thursday to fight climate change, including meeting the Paris climate agreement 10 years early, which will make the company carbon neutral by 2040.

As part of this pledge to fight climate change, Bezos announced Amazon will purchase 100,000 electric vans. These vehicles will begin making deliveries in 2021 and all 100,000 will be deployed by 2024, Bezos said.

And sounding much like a certain president...

In his remarks, Bezos described the planet as the best in the solar system and said more needs to be done to take care of it.

Nerd. Saturn is by far the best.

Though I am a fan of his anus.

Amazon's announcement followed a recent pledge from 1,550 Amazon (AMZN) employees to walk out in protest of what they call inaction on climate change. The group, known as the Amazon Employees for Climate Justice, issued a statement Thursday calling Bezos' announcement a huge win. But they said it's not enough and they will still walk out Friday.

I would fire every fricking one of these employees.

Hm I wonder how much carbon those lithium mines for batteries make? I guess he isn't taking that into account. What about charging the vans? Isn't most of the energy in the US still from fossil fuels?

Sounds like a bullshite PR move to me.

So now electric cars are worse for the environment. Makes sense

Not worse, but something does have to provide energy to recharge.

Don't worry. I'm sure he'll announce some hydro-powered charging stations in the next two years!

Which will likely be charged by natural gas powered electricity.

Not until he buys the charger stations.

Next time anyone sees the new Amazon vans take a close look. They are about a year old here in BR and look like they have been through a demolition derby. Plenty of whisky dents.

So if the grid was run off of renewables electric cars would be more beneficial. But still, charging a battery off from energy from a natural gas plant is still better than your traditional car.

As well as the energy involved in mining the lithium, constructing the battery, and shipping it to a manufacturing plant.

Is he going to use Tesla's solar panels to charge them up?

Oh, wait...he's suing them.
