Otherwise why would they care? And why are people pissed off about it, if it is no different than what they do from 9 to 5 at home?

I care because my employer is in a state 1200 miles away. I was hired by them while living this far away. If they suddenly mandated I come in every day, it would be an issue.

I get that this is different from someone who works in the same town. But saying people who WFH just frick around all day while ignoring how much time is wasted in an office setting is asinine.

bro, no one spends 8 straight hours at the office doing work for someone else’s company either.

Yes they do

Too many rats on a company staff that would tell them you went to the gym or cut the lawn, and are not at your work space, But you admitting to not working while in the office, is how I know youre not WFH for 40 hours a week

Just stop posting.

You obviously have never worked on or been around high performing teams / people / projects / orgs. They kick arse for 10-12 hours straight if they have to, no matter where it is.

Please, just stop.

I think youre getting the point

Its not an issue for the company at all. And they are the salary payer. So if they think they can get more out of a guy coming into that office 1200 miles away, you have a tough decision to make

Not them

Are there any actual studies which show that the WFH model is superior?

And despite how much time is apparently “wasted in an office setting”, it clearly worked for decades.

And with the way in which American life seemed to progress, it worked fairly well.

Is the current WFH model provably better than the previous model?

Scruffy can’t work from home, though.

Also, are other factors impacted, such as the frequency of asking for a raise or promotion?

ok, bro. I work in private equity, but preach to me about how you work hard at your “high performing “ office job. Tell me how much you “kick arse” and how it must be in an office.

Well you said it. You said you “see the world” because of your commute. Tell us about it.

A close relative of mine is a software developer at one of their campuses. Beautiful buildings BTW.
These cities give Amazon tax breaks to come in, and all sorts of support businesses pop up. Then the support businesses can’t make any money because everybody is working from home.
City told Amazon, time for people to start coming in. It’s a nice company to work for. You can bring your dog to work. They even have a couple of dog parks.

I’m not arguing it’s superior, so I have no idea about studies. I just don’t believe it’s inferior as some in this post seem to think. I spent 20 years in an office every day and had a front row seat to the waste in that environment. Time will tell if WFH is sustainable or not, I guess.

Yes, I could see this being impacted in my field. Much less room for growth without being in person to build relationships. But I’m at a point in my life where the trade off is worth it for me.

Sucks for the Amazon workers who are able to WFH. We’re in the office 5 days a week but the rumor is we’re going to start WFH 2 days a week in the next few months. Would honestly be the ideal scenario for me - 3 in the office and 2 out. Feel like I’m much more productive at home - I do keep a more flexible schedule but the hours worked are much more productive when I can stretch the day out some instead of being stuck to a desk for 8 hours.

I wasn't responding to you. I said high performers get it done from anywhere, that means WFH or an office or a public library.

I suppose "private equity" work doesn't require much in the way of reading comp skills.

Well, it has been a pretty common thing for about 5 years now.

I’m not really taking a side here, but if WFH was better and showed an increase in a company’s bottom line, they would absolutely have zero issue with it.

There must be some aspect of the model that simply isn’t working well.

I think a major part is the training of new staff.

I would expect it to be significantly harder to train new staff remotely, which could turn into a huge problem in the future.

Another factor is most likely real estate valuation and tax deals made with city governments.

I could see the WFH model being an earned benefit as an individual progressed in their career.

My company does 1 day WFH. I'd prefer 2 personally, but it is what it is.

I'm 3 and 2, (M-W-F hm and T & Th offc) really like it. However if I don't feel like going it's not a problem, I get more work done at home anyway, and Im not one to abuse it. Most people aren't like that.
